On landing, I would crank in a few turns of flaperons but without knowing for sure where it was before my 2½ turns down, it was always a guess.
On the tail end of the downwind leg I lower the flaperons to 90° (about 4 turns down from zero) for landing.
I was quite surprised to find that 100° or zero flaperon consistently resulted in level, hands-off flight.

Flaperons offer an attractively priced alternative to flaps, but are not recommended for use with floats, where standard flaps are preferred.
As with all flaperon designs, aileron control (i.e., travel) is lessened with deployment, and caution should be exercised until one becomes proficient in their use.
Flaperons are easily deployed by means of a crank that is customarily placed on the underside of the root tube just above and out of the pilot's normal field of vision, yet are easily accessible, and can be positioned in an infinite range of settings from 0 to 19 degrees deflection.

To utilize space as efficiently as possible, the aileron control bell crank is designed with a hole bored through the center, this will allow the flap bell crank to run inside of the aileron control bell crank, provide the necessary movement for all control systems and maximize space as much as possible.
As the aileron / flaperon push-pull rod moves outboard or inboard along the wing it will sway a bell crank (Circled in Red) that is connected to a multipoint system.
The movement of the flaperon bell crank is translated to the push-pull rod of the flap (Circled in Cyan).

Flaperon   (Site not responding. Last check: )
A flaperon is a type of control surface that combines aspects of both flaps and ailerons.
In addition to controlling the roll or bank of an airplane like conventional ailerons, both flaperons can be lowered together to function much the same as a dedicated set of flaps would.
The use of flaperons instead of separate ailerons and flaps can reduce the weight and complexity of an aircraft.

Many designs that incorporate flaperons mount the control surfaces away from the wing so as to provide undisturbed airflow at high angles of attack or low airspeeds.
Flaperons are sometimes referred to as "Junker Flaperons".
Several notable experimental aircraft use flaperons including the Zenith STOL CH 701, the Kitfox and the RJ.03 IBIS.

The upper left hole is drilled, measured from the front edge of the root tube at 10-3/8" for a CH-I and 14-3/8" for a CH-II and the lower bottom hole is drilled at 8" CH-I or 12" CH-II, also from the front edge of the root tube.

In both cases it is very likely that there were excessive side loads placed on the flaperon hangers which could have contributed to the subsequent failures.
In the latter case the failure occurred on the ground during a period of engine operation at very low RPM’s including engine operation on one cylinder, which caused the entire aircraft to shake violently.
The flaperon with the Denney Aerocraft mass balance weighs 7 pounds so you can see that it will withstand a side load of over 21 G’s with the modification.

Note the control lever, if you pull it towards you giving you a slower speed the ailerons move more for the input wheras at higher speeds with the stick away from you the same input will make less motion at the ailerons.

ISON Tandem AirBike Builder's Log -- February 2001
In the ongoing saga of adapting Zenith flaperons to my Tandem wing, I found out that the CH701 surfaces are only 122" long, and are made up of two skins which are 72" and 50" long.
When I asked Chris if he was comfortable with the roll authority I will get with the flaperons not going all the way to the wing tips, he said the Junkers-style ailerons are "very effective" and this arrangement will make "a very good airplane." My drooped tips are not shown in the drawing yet.
The outer half of the surface is joined at a lower incidence, apparently to cause the outer portion of the wing to stall after the inner portion.

Another control surface that combines an aileron and flap is called a flaperon.
A single surface on each wing serves both purposes: used as an aileron, the flaperons left and right are actuated differentially; when used as a flap, both flaperons are actuated downwards.
As an example of an aircraft using flaperons, see this RJ.03 IBIS experimental aircraft.

ALL this function does is allow you to change what CAN be the second aileron servo's control from 6 or 7—normal for flaperon or aileron differential—to 5and6 - used only when you are using a 5-channel receiver.
Flaperon uses channel 6 for the second servo and lets you operate the two aileron servos in unison as flaps; aileron differential uses channel 7 for the second aileron channel and does NOT allow flap action from the twin aileron servos.
This is where you determine how much throw your flaperons will have when acting from the flap knob ONLY.

With the flaperon handle on the right and if one uses their right hand on the stick, it is cumbersome to switch hands on the stick and to reach the flaperon handle.
I have investigated using a little flaperon to enable the FireFly to leave the ground in the three point stance with out "popping up" and to make stall ground effect three point landings without the tail wheel touching the ground first.

 BOEING Model 777 Series Airplanes
Based on engineering analysis of the flaperon support structure, it was determined that due to the reduced fatigue life of the affected parts, fatigue cracks could develop on the outboard support of the flaperons.
Such fatigue cracking of the outboard support of the flaperons, if not detected and corrected, could result in fracture of the flaperon support structure, loss of the flaperon, and consequent reduced controllability of the airplane.
The FAA is currently considering requiring modification of the outboard and inboard support assemblies of the flaperons, as described in the alert service bulletin, which would constitute terminating action for the repetitive inspections required by this AD.

We are issuing this AD to prevent damage and eventual fracture of the yoke assembly, pin assembly, and attachment bolts that connect the inboard and outboard PCUs to a flaperon, which could lead to the flaperon becoming unrestrained and consequently departing from the airplane.
A departing flaperon could also cause damage to the horizontal and vertical stabilizers, which could result in loss of control of the airplane if damage is significant.

If the flaperon control horn is attached per the Manual instructions, on one of these “short” flaperons, then it is possible that the inboard flaperon hinge will not match up to the flaperon attach bracket on the # 1 rib or have the proper distance form the first inboard hinge
They way to determine if your flaperons fall into this “short” category, is to measure the distance from the center of the first hinge cut out to the inboard end of the flaperon skin.
If you find that you have one of these “short” flaperons and have not attached the #25009 Flaperon Control Horn, cut a.2” piece of #24003 Bearing (scrap from the cut off section of bearing) and install it between the #25011 End Rib bushing and the #24003 Bearing, per the enclosed drawing.
