The music is the same as on the album, but the selection of samples used from the film is completely different.
Not as sharp as the studio version, and obviously missing the film samples, this is more noteworthy for its oddity value than the quality of the performance.

Flash Gordon / Amityville 3D - Music from the Movies
Although Flash Gordon is a first rate score, the bonus attraction on this album - Amityville 3D - is the one that I actually like the most.
It's very brassy and heroic, making use of the Flash Gordon theme composed by Queen- initially, Queen was hired to write the songs only and Blake wanted to interpolate them in the instrumental score, which he did in a very effective way.
Ever since I met Howard Blake in 1995, performing an interview where the composer told me the most horrific stories about the scoring of Flash Gordon, I have waited for a CD presenting the score as it was recorded with the National Philharmonic Orchestra.

Flash Gordon Soundtrack Reviews @ Movie Music . com
One of the wierdest misfire films to come from the king of misfires, Dino De Laurentiis, Flash Gordon traded heavily on the psychedelic imagery of Mongo, the undercurrent of kinky sexuality, its hommage to the original "Flash Gordon" serials and, of course, the music by Queen.
If Queen's album could be reissued without the dialogue, then much of this would become moot; enterprising film score fans could edit the score into its proper order while Queen's fans could just hear the music.
Unfortunately, all of this is presented on the album buried under dialogue and effects.

 ROCKSTEADY RECORDS
The recent update to the classic Flash Gordon movie was roundly criticised for its murky, convoluted plotting, its inclusion of Nazis and its quirky performances, but it's soundtrack, as provided by The Remittance Man Project, is actually one of the better efforts of recent years.
The Remittance Man provides the movements of the film with an unorthadox musical approach, with ambient sounds during fast paced action sequences offset by high intensity rhythms during moments of contemplation for the main characters.
This album was in such demand that our entire stock sold out within three weeks of going on sale.

Following the release of Queen's first album of the eighties, The Game, the group recorded something totally different - something that, unlike that album, would be forgotten by legions of fans - The soundtrack to the 1980 film Flash Gordon.
FLASH GORDON was the motion picture soundtrack for the 1980movie, released just a few months after one of Queen's mostcommercially successful albums, THE GAME.
For the album, the band creates a synth-heavy rock work that is unlike anything else they had ever recorded before or would ever record in their future.

Flash Gordon & Amityville 3D - Howard Blake
Had Flash Gordon been chopped down to half an hour of the best cues from each part of the film, I'd probably be a little more generous.
An album that mixed in the Queen songs with a proportion of original score highlights would almost certainly be terrific fun - although I must admit the more widely available album is fairly amusing with Queen's songs interspersed with gloriously tacky dialogue clips.
The album does get off to a fabulous start with The Hero, using the Queen material to best over the top heroic use, but after that the score is much more variable.
