One of the more useful figurative meanings we've assigned to "flat" is that of "absolutely," as in the phrase "flat broke," giving the sense of "reduced to a flat state, absolutely without substance or variation." A related sense is "exactly, precisely, not exceeding," which appeared in the U.S. in the early 20th century.
Then again, that's why you have me, and, seeing as you've stapled the requisite ten-dollar bill to your email, let's explore the wonderful (and not at all two dimensional) world of "flat." The Beatles song you mention, by the way, is "A Day in the Life," from

This type of scrapbook album meets the functional demands of scrapbook enthusiasts who want the ability to easily add pages to their albums, who like having the pages turn freely and lie flat when opened, and who prefer the aesthetic appearance of the covered spine.

Comment: Great jangly pop is alive and well all over Atomic Fireball, whether your preference is the flat-out rev of the title track or the sweet pulse and bounce of "Penelope wild." Lead singer Pat Buchanan is a flat-out great singer, maybe the best voice I've heard all year.
Paste that in front of a band that is as versatile as it is talented and you're in for a real keeper.

On his first solo album, Vestavia (on Indianapolis' Flat Earth Records), the songwriter presents a matured and incredibly memorable collection of sharp, honest tunes with an endearing, organic fluidity.
Strohm (who hails from Bloomington, Ind., originally, moved to Boston for a time, and now lives in Birmingham, Ala.) was a founder of the Blake Babies and Antenna, and he is a regular on the Lemonheads' albums and tours.
The album is a bit rootsier than his earlier work, with a sound that has as much in common with Tom Petty or The Wallflowers as anything, which should bode well for its commercial viability.

Origin’s debut was an atrociously boring, repetitive and flat-as-a-washboard piece of garbage that was essentially nothing more than drummer John Longstreth playing circles around his bandmates, who wrote and performed the songs with what seemed like no enthusiasm at all.
As a whole, this is quite a fluid and catchy album, complementing its standing as perhaps the fastest technical death metal album ever.
The whole album is played at, if you’ll think back to that spoof-movie classic Spaceballs, ludicrous speed.

 Nirvana - Nevermind
At the album's stylistic extremes, "Something in the Way" floats a translucent cloud of acoustic guitar and cello, while "Breed" and "Stay Away" race flat-out, the latter ending in an awesome meltdown rumble.
Nevermind was never meant to change the world, but you can never predict when the zeitgeist will hit, and Nirvana's second album turned out to be the place where alternative rock crashed into the mainstream.
NEVERMIND not only gave Nirvana the prize the band had reached out for, it included some epic consequences in the bargain--raising the Seattle grunge trio to the status of Godhead, and forever changing the face of the pop music market.

 SOUNDTHESIRENS.COM - Review :: Lit - Lit
With Lit flying solo on their latest release and churning out a recipe for disaster, it leaves one to debate that maybe they were just like every alternative, record label built machine- because when they try to stand on their own, they fall flat on their faces.
The rest of the album goes back and forth trying to figure out if they are a pop rock band, a metal band, an alternative band, or a band that should have ended their success a few years ago.
Lit opens the album with a song full of cheap metal hooks that leaves you wondering if this is the real face of the band that has been hiding for years.

Jackson C. Frank - Free Music Downloads, Videos, CDs, MP3s, Bio, Merchandise and Links
Frank shared a London flat with fellow American expatriates Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, who were briefly based there in the mid-'60s prior to their first hit, "The Sounds of Silence." Simon, then a struggling folk singer/songwriter himself, was impressed enough to produce Frank's self-titled album, released in the U.K. only.
Frank's album was well-received in British folk circles, and several of his songs made their way into the repertoire of his friend Sandy Denny, who recorded a couple, "Milk and Honey" and "You Never Wanted Me," on her own debut LP.
For most of the next two decades, Frank lived on the streets or hospitals, too discouraged to contact old friends and family.

 XO (Elliott Smith)
"XO" had the chance of falling flat, precisely because of Smith's expanded resources; there was a chance that he would not be able to transition from his minimalistic sound to a fuller one.
And the last song on the album, "I Didn't Understand," is a beautiful breathy a capella piece which very skillfully sums up the album's themes and brings it to a close.
Smith's earlier albums require a desire on the listener's part to let the music bloom in all its glory; "XO" blossoms on first listen.
