Stokes County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
Stokes County is a member of the regional Northwest Piedmont Council of Governments.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.50% under the age of 18, 7.30% from 18 to 24, 31.40% from 25 to 44, 25.00% from 45 to 64, and 11.80% who were 65 years of age or older.

Ira Hough was born in Henry county on 2 Jul 1843, the son of Jesse and Dorothy Jenkins Hough in Liberty township on the farm of his fraternal Grandparents, Ira and Elizabeth Hough who came to Henry county from Stokes, North Carolina.
Jesse Hough died sometime in 1852 and is probably buried in the Flat Rock Friend's cemetery along with his first child and his ancestors, the only marker in the cemetery is for his infant child that died in 1841.
Ira's sister Irilla Hough McCormack died on 9 Aug 1894 and is buried in the Hess cemetery north of Cadiz.
