The Fleet Marine Force Ribbon is a decoration of the United States Navy which was established in 1984 by Secretary of the Navy John F. Lehman, Jr.
Before the ribbon may be awarded, a written exam is administered to test specific professional skills, knowledge and military experience which are required for members of the Fleet Marine Force.
For those awarded the Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, who have also participated in direct combat operations with the Fleet Marine Force, a Combat Operations Insignia is authorized for wear on the ribbon.

The Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Enlisted Warfare Specialist insignia is a qualification insignia of the United States Navy earned by Navy enlisted members assigned to the Fleet Marine Force of the U.S. Marine Corps who have successfully completed the necessary requirements.
To be designated an Enlisted FMF Warfare Specialist, a service member must serve a minimum of 12 months as a member of the Fleet Marine Force and must participate in designated forward field operations.
Navy personnel may also be awarded the Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, which may be worn simultaneously with the FMF Enlisted Warfare Specialist insignia.

The ribbon is a slight modification of the ribbon for the obsolete Naval Reserve Medal (which was effectively replaced by the Armed Forces Reserve Medal).
The only difference between this ribbon and that of the naval Reserve Medal is that this ribbon has a quarter inch wide stripe of dark blue in the center.
