Eighteen Royal Marines commanded Fleet Air Arm squadrons during the course of the war, and with the formation of the British Pacific Fleet were well-represented in the final drive on Japan.
Fleet Protection Group: This is the home defence unit of the Royal Marines, performing various tasks outside the remit of 3 Commando Brigade, including protection of nuclear weapons and provision for the Northern Ireland patrol squadron.
Royal Marines Band Service: The only branch of the Royal Marines which admits women and whose members are not necessarily commando-trained (and therefore may wear blue berets instead of green), the Band Service provides all the regular bands for the Royal Navy and also trains the RN Volunteer Bands.

Her Majesty´s Royal Marines, usually just known as the Royal Marines (RM), are the United Kingdom´s amphibious force and a core component of the country´s Rapid Deployment Force.
During the First World War, Royal Marines took part in the amphibious landing at Gallipoli in 1915, and, in 1918, led the raid at Zeebrugge.
During the Second World War, a small party of Royal Marines were first ashore at Namsos in April 1940, seizing the approaches to the Norwegian town preparatory to a landing by the British Army two days later.

Sergeant Iain Wilshaw joined the Royal Marines in 1993 and on successful completion of Royal Marine Commando Training was drafted to FPGRM (Fleet Protection Group Royal Marines) for two years as convoy protection force guarding Britain's nuclear weapons.
He was then drafted to 42 Commando Royal Marines where he completed exercise-training tours in America, the Caribbean, Wales, Scotland and numerous other countries.
His next draft was a return to CTCRM where he trained Royal Marines recruts throughout their commando training before moving to The Royal Marines School of Music where, as part of the miltary training team has experienced some new and different challenges.

On completion of training he joined Y Company 45 Commando Royal Marines (45CdoRM) in Arbroath Scotland where he travelled widely with the unit including 2 Norway deployments, Exercise Curry Trail in Brunei, a deployment to Northern Ireland and Operation Haven in Northern Iraq.
After two years with Commachio Group John returned to Y Company 45CdoRM where he was involved in Operation Driver in Kuwait and another tour of Northern Ireland in 1995.

A few weeks ago Iranian Revolutionary Guards caught and imprisoned six British Royal Marines who were alleged to have strayed with their three riverine patrol boats inside Iranian territorial waters on the Shatt al-Arab waterway.
In London defence sources now say it was the Iranians who deliberately swooped across the waterway, capturing the marine contingent which was hugging the Iraqi shoreline and was under strict instructions to avoid any manoeuvres that could be construed as a provocation by Tehran.
Mid-late June saw a tense stand-off between the UK and Iran after three riverine patrol boats crewed by two Royal Navy petty officers and six Royal Marines from the Fleet Protection Group were “caught” inside Iranian territorial water on the Shatt al-Arab waterway.

Even though the British Marines were more accustomed to different training, they all showed great enthusiasm for the course with 2nd FAST.
