Fleetwith Pike - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fleetwith Pike is a fell in the English Lake District in the county of Cumbria which reaches a height of 648 metres (2,126 feet).
There are two possible starting points for the ascent of Fleetwith Pike: these are Gatesgarth in the Buttermere valley and the top of the Honister pass.
The ascent from Gatesgarth goes up the intimidating-looking Fleetwith Edge, however all the crags can be by-passed without too much difficulty, this route goes past a white cross which is clearly visible from the valley and bears the inscription of "Erected by Friends of Fanny Mercer, accidentally killed 1887".

The direct routes of ascent to this ridge are generally steep with the exception of Scarth Gap Pass.
The ascent via Bleaberry tarn to Red Pike is probably the most popular with a well worn path right up to the final steepening where the path degrades into loose and crumbly steep ground.

I began the leg burning descent from the summit to Gatesgarth passing the Fanny Mercer memorial, where I was greeted by the hordes of weekend "tourist" visitors to the area enjoying ice cream in the full Gatesgarth car park.
