TMSV: History of the North Melbourne Electric Tramway & Lighting Company
This was to build an electric tramway from the MTOC terminus at Flemington Bridge to North Essendon along Mt Alexander Road and Buckley Street.
Both Essendon and Flemington councils were strongly behind Morgans’ tramway system, and given that it was proposed to be carried out by private capital, it was thought that State Government approval would be a mere formality.
In the interim, a referendum of ratepayers regarding the tramway proposal was held, resulting in an overwhelming victory for the pro-tram lobby (2,746 to 146).
