I caught the train for the short (15 minute) journey to Flemington Park Racecourse and a fast, regular and efficient service it is too.
In fact the Grandstand at the track was probably the most impressive structure I have experienced at a racecourse anywhere, and I have been to all the major British and French tracks and even a number of US and German too (and of course Happy Valley now as well).
It is also very close to Melbourne University and the fusion of the locals and the students brings a wonderful vibrant atmosphere to the area.
