 Rough Edge: Fleshcrawl CD Reviews
I like each new Fleshcrawl album better than the previous one; perhaps not enough to warrant an extra half chainsaw, but enough to say that I like the way the band is slowly evolving and still remaining true to their sound over the last few years.
Fleshcrawl are no strangers to cover songs and on this disc they tackle Judas Priest's "Metal Gods" by twisting it into their own aggressive mold without making it unrecognizable.

 Fleshcrawl - Death Metal
Fleshcrawl have chosen the former and for that reason this release does not blow minds but suspends them in a reasonable musical experience with lush overtones of conceptualization in the lexicon of death metal.
Fleshcrawl, with three albums previous under their collective belt built an encompassing structure for their often doomy and consistently melodic raw death metal, in the furthest evolution so far of their highly thematic and atmospheric thunderous death metal.
Impressively Fleshcrawl hold true to their style while laying out downright catchy, almost pop tunes crafted from a blasting blur of bass and percussion, offering mostly on the second "side" of this CD more intricate fare, including some excellent harmonizations to provide internally melodic, lush metal that is reminiscent of Unanimated.

After several great albums, Fleshcrawl have reached the reputation to be the leading German death metal band.
Fleshcrawl are often changing from mid tempo parts (Into The Depths Of No Return) to very fast songs (Flesh Bloody Flesh).
Even if it is nowadays very difficult to make something new in the death metal genre, Fleshcrawl have been able to create a very entertaining album which shouldn't hide behind a classic band like Boltthrower to whom they often are compared.

Much like Metal Blade labelmates the Crown, Fleshcrawl are an intriguing band that could very well pique the interest of those who are not fans of this genre.

Fleshcrawl stick to their standard formula so there's not much new here...
Actually, there's nothing but it doesn't matter since Fleshcrawl is a well oiled machine that knows how to craft some listen worthy songs There are a few tracks like the title track, "Made of Flesh", "Scourge of the Bleeding Haunted" and "When Life Surrenders" that stick out but the rest remain kinda anonymous.

Bands that play good old NWSDM stuff like this are far from as common as they used to be, and the ones we do have (Like Dismember) kind of seem to have lost their enthusiasm for it, and don't have that spark anymore.
Fleshcrawl may not be breaking any new ground, but at least they're having a good time, and they sound like they still mean it.
Fleshcrawl play midpaced, old-school odes to death and evil, and they have that cool Entombed-ey guitar tone, despite the fact that this wasn't recorded at Sunlight Studios.

After several name problems (the band used to be called Morgoth and Suffocation), they found in 1990 with Fleshcrawl a name that was not trademarked.
But because the songs are varying from very fast to midtempo songs and because of a killer production, Soulskinner has become a great brutal death metal album containing 10 first class songs.

Right now, Fleshcrawl and their new gore obsessed album, Made of Flesh, is a prime example of that very skilled and technical songwriting that at times seem hidden.
Fleshcrawl have penned some great morbid moments and even sometimes break out of gore-mode, but stay to true to the genre by continuing to bark about your death, or my death, or their own death.
Rating: 3.5/5: I do recommend Fleshcrawl for those of you who crave the feel of warm blood and the smell of fresh entrails; cause Made of Flesh is sure to tickle your perverted fancy.

From the name, it should go without saying that Metal Blade's very own Fleshcrawl play brutal death metal, and that no one's going to mistake them for Boy George or Cocteau Twins anytime soon.
Fleshcrawl have not been completely oblivious to the Swedish melodic movement either: "Under the Banner of Death" sounds like a Göteborg band overdosing on performance-enhancing drugs, as does "Graves of the Tortured." But make no mistake, these excursions into melodic death and fl are the exceptions, and not the rule.
There are better bands, and there are worse, yet for those of you who enjoy above average, generic but engaging brutal death metal, Fleshcrawl should satisfy.
