 Kevin Smith Off of Fletch
Kevin Smith doing the next Fletch film (Fletch Won) has been one of the few projects in development that I've been really excited about.
Posted by: Lou_Sytsma at October 3, 2005 02:22 PM well as said before...kevin knew a long time ago that the studio didn't want Lee as Fletch...so it was kevin himself that started talking about Braff as Fletch...they did meet and talk about the film and Braff wanted to do it...
Second, and correctly, Kevin Smith is no longer affiliated with the Fletch film as writer or director", says David List, the film's producer, to IMDB and NewsAskew.

 FLETCH WON
Taken off a case when his subject ends up dead, Fletch continues his investigation regardless, which puts him in conflict with just about everyone, including the police, his boss, other reporters, etc. Along the way, he also hones the art of disguise that will later become his trademark...

"Fletch Won" now... October? - www.ezboard.com
Fletch Won has been going on for a while now, first it was Jason Lee, Ryan Reynolds, who knows, be a good choice though.
You dont have to have to be a so-called "hardcore fan" of Fletch to like the franchise, but I think if people started noticing the franchise (read the books, watched the films) they would realize and have a different perception on what a great character of fiction and how exciting this project could be.
Smith is not the most dependable person around...I met him once in the late 90's at a film lecture he was doing and I asked about the Fletch film, and he said that you have to use Chevy as he put it, "Chevy is Fletch." Of coarse this was 6 or 7 years ago.

I thank GOD that he wont be in Fletch and it is the smartest move he's ever made, and is really considerate of the fans.
I agree that Jason Lee is the only option to play Fletch, but he says he is not interested.
Maybe the film being pushed back is a good thing, because now Jason might have more time to go about his business before stepping into a big comedic role.

 Cinephiles Discussion Forums: Kevin Smith?
I truly cannot wait for his new Fletch film(Fletch Won), and although I love Jason Lee, I really think its gonna be hard for him to stand up to the amazing job Chevy Chase pulled in Fletch and Fletch Lives.
His next project (as I mentioned earlier) is Fletch Won, (surely you remember the old Fletch films?) anyhow it is about fletcher going on his first assignment...
In his defense, I heard that after he filmed DOGMA Kevin Smith actually joined the protesters standing outside the theatre to protest the film.

 Fletch
Smith has held the film rights to the book series for a while now, and has been recently quoted as saying "I actually learned to write dialogue by reading Mcdonald's Fletch books."
Fletch, at least when we initially meet him, is a hotshot LA-based newspaper reporter beset by a hypertense and demanding editor, two ex-wives hungry for alimony (although arguably hungrier for Fletch himself), and a coterie of military men determined to award Fletch a Bronze Star he doesn't want.
But Mcdonald is a lean, economical stylist, and even the least of the Fletch novels flies along at a breakneck pace, with wit, panache and subversive mischief to spare.
