Flevoland - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Flevoland was named after Lacus Flevo, a name recorded in Roman sources for a large inland lake that was where the south part of the Zuiderzee was later.
Eastern Flevoland (Oostelijk Flevoland or Oost-Flevoland) and Southern Flevoland (Zuidelijk Flevoland or Zuid-Flevoland), unlike the Noordoostpolder, have peripheral lakes between them and the mainland: the Veluwemeer and Gooimeer, respectively.
A new element in the design of Eastern Flevoland is the larger city Lelystad (1966), named after the man who had played a crucial role in the design and realisation of the Zuiderzee Works.

 POLDERS - Southern Flevoland (1968 - 1980)
Southern Flevoland was the last of the IJsselmeer polders, although a fifth polder, the Markerwaard, was kept in mind for a long time during the formulation of the plans.
Four enclaves were indicated in Southern Flevoland: a centrally situated agricultural area of eight by ten kilometres, a wooded area in the Southeast, an urban area in the Southwest and an urban recreational industrial area in the Northern section of the polder as a transitional zone towards the Markerwaard.
Thanks to its spacious layout, it is likely that Southern Flevoland can successfully accommodate the massive increase in scale in agriculture and increasing urbanization.
