  Flight Deck
Flight Deck Crew – The flight deck crew consists of three parts, the LSO, the tie-down crew, and the fueling team, all of whom wear color-coded shirts and vests to identify their job.
In addition to the Flight Deck Crew, a Fire Party, consisting of an On-Scene Leader and two firefighting teams, is manned and ready on the messdeck during all flight evolutions in case of a crash or fire involving the helicopter.
This evolution is known as HIFR (helicopter in flight refueling), and is accomplished by hovering the helicopter over the flight deck and lowering the helo’s hoist down to the flight deck crew.

Flight Deck Automation Issues Home Page
Flight deck automation, therefore, consists of machines on the commercial transport aircraft flight deck which perform functions otherwise performed by pilots.
Flight deck automation has generally been well received by pilots and the aviation industry and accident rates for advanced technology aircraft are generally lower than those of comparable conventional aircraft.
The list of flight deck automation human factors issues and related evidence we compiled in this study should be a valuable resource in the search for solutions and the further clarification of issues.

Commercial transport aircraft flight deck automation has been well received by pilots and the aviation industry as a whole.
Nevertheless, pilots, scientists, and aviation safety experts have expressed concerns about flight deck automation: fear that pilots may place too much confidence in automation, concern that they might lose manual flying skills, and views that pilot-automation interfaces may be poorly designed.
In our work we found that the issues of flight deck automation are well documented and that there is evidence related to most of them.

From the literature, comments from the experts we surveyed, news media, and other sources, we identified 34 aircraft accident reports that we thought might contain evidence related to the flight deck automation issues.
In the table, the phrase "equivalent to issue statement" means that the board's description of the problem they discovered in their investigation was approximately the same as the problem suggested by the issue statement of one of the flight deck automation issues.
The phrase "similar to issue statement" means that their description did not quite match the issue statement but that their essential meaning seemed to be the same, or that it seemed to the analyst that the investigating board described a problem very similar to that suggested by the issue statement.

Boeing: Commercial Airplanes - 767 Flight Deck
Because the 757 and 767 were developed at the same time, a basic design criteria was that the two airplanes be part of a "family," having common pilot type rating and sharing many parts, systems, testing and manufacturing processes.
Contracts with major suppliers for the two-crew flight deck were being established as early as October 1978.
Among the impacts of offering a two-crew flight deck were the cost of modifying 30 airplanes; the cost of the original design and installation of the three-person flight decks; and the delay of the delivery schedule (Boeing delivered 20 767s in 1982, eight fewer than planned).

ShipCamouflage.com - Adoption of Blue Flight Deck Stain
Additional evidence is the documented fact that Enterprise adopted blue deck stain in July, 1941, and film footage of Lexington in October, 1941 off California landing Buffalos shows a blue deck with light gray deck markings on top of her original mahogany stained deck and chrome yellow markings.
Harrill advised that the pilots had no problems lining up on the deck during operations, and noted that the carrier deck was much more difficult to see from the air compared to the mahogany stain and yellow markings previously worn.
Applying flight deck stain could be done at anchor or even at sea in calm weather, so application would have been very soon thereafter.
