A feature film also entitled "Flipper" was released in 1996, starring Paul Hogan as Porter Ricks, and Elijah Wood as his nephew, Sandy, and of course, Flipper.
The original Flipper was named Mitzi and she lived from 1958 to 1972.

A television adaptation or spin-off from the 1963 movie Flipper, the show focused on widowed, young Everglades National Park ranger Porter Ricks (Brian Kelly), his sons Sandy (Luke Halpin, who played the same role in the 1963 film) and "Bud" (Tommy Norden), and their pet dolphin Flipper.
On television, Flipper was played mainly by a female dolphin named Suzy, and additionally by other females named Patty and Cathy.

Even though the plot turns are as predictable as rain in the tropics, it's still heartwarming to watch how Flipper transforms the boy, forms a bond between nephew and uncle, cures a young island boy of his shyness, and wins the support of a lovely girl (Jessica Wesson).
