Method of producing pelleted carbon black - Patent 4228143
Flocculent furnace carbon fl is produced by contacting a feed hydrocarbon with hot combustion gases to pyrolyze the feed hydrocarbon.
After producing a flocculent or loose carbon fl having the desired photelometer, the flocculent carbon fl is pelleted in a pelleter such as that disclosed in U.S. Pat.
The flocculent carbon fl produced in the reactor preferably is of the type which is referred to as a hard fl which has an N.sub.2 SA (nitrogen surface area) value of between about 75 and about 140 square meters per gram (m.sup.2 /gm).

Facts and Fallacies about Colloidal Silver
Bridging flocculents preferred for use herein are selected from the group consisting of water-soluble and water-dispersible anionic and nonionic polymers and mixtures thereof.
The rate of coagulation and flocculation of organic impurities, on the other hand, is measured by the n %-ile soluble organic matter flocculation rate (t.sub.n).
The n %-ile soluble organic matter flocculation rate is the time taken to achieve a colour reading corresponding to a humic acid level which is (100-n) % of that of the initial level (24 ppm).

Flocculent powder removes suspended sediments from water by sticking to them and causing them to sink.
Flocculant Blocks consist of fine granules of powder grade flocculant dispersed in a solid, but readily water-soluble polymer.
Flocculant Blocks are ideal for dosing flocculant in remote locations such as storm water drains and detention dams and in situations where regular supervision of dosing is not practical.

Star Formation Without Strong Density Waves: A Study of Flocculent Spirals   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Flocculent galaxies are important counterexamples to grand design spirals: they exhibit weak, discontinuous spiral structure at optical wavelengths, suggesting the absence of a spiral density wave.
A study of flocculent spirals, chosen to cover a range of gas surface densities, therefore offers the best means of isolating the effects of density waves on the formation of gas clouds and stars in spiral galaxies.
I will discuss the evidence for weak density waves in flocculent spirals and their relation to star and gas cloud formation, as well as the implications of this work for theories of spiral structure in galaxies.

NGC 3521 is similar in appearance to M63 and belongs to the class of galaxies known for lacking well defined spiral arm structure.
These galaxies are known as "flocculent" galaxies because they have short, patchy spiral arms which are fragmented and loosely organized.
Flocculent galaxies often show a large halo to disk ratio for unknown reasons.

Flocculent Settling in Quiescent Systems   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The development of an empirical equation for description of the distribution of flocculent solids in quiescent settling columns is described.
The equation is predicted on observations made in the course of concentration-depth time analyses of settling data for flocculent and non flocculant solids in quiescent and agitated settling columns.
The validity of the equation is verified by its application to ten different quiescent flocculent settling studies involving several sewages and natural lake and river suspensions.

 A Flocculent Spiral Galaxy - SciForums.com
The above true color image of flocculent spiral galaxy NGC 4414 was taken with the Hubble Space Telescope to help answer this question.
Stars and gas near the visible edge of spiral galaxies orbit the center so fast that the gravity from a large amount of unseen dark matter must be present to hold them together.
Although NGC 4414's center likely holds little dark matter, understanding its matter distribution helps calibrate the rest of the galaxy and, by deduction, flocculent spirals in general.

NRAO Summer Student Program Project Summaries: 1999
The student might choose either to concentrate on complete reduction of the survey data, in which case he or she will receive co-authorship on the survey paper, or to focus on the analysis and interpretation of a specific source and assume lead authorship.
Due to their lack of organization, flocculent galaxies have been assumed by some of the astronomical community to not contain spiral density waves.
So, Michele made this her doctoral thesis topic, investigated several flocculents, including the prototypical flocculent galaxy, NGC 5055, and found conclusive evidence for density wave presence in a few of them.

Physical Behavior of Flocculent Suspensions in Upflow   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The variation in concentration of flocculent particles in the sludge blanket of an upflow clarifier or reactor is a function of the upflow velocity of the liquid.
The experimental work of this investigation demonstrates that the same general type of relationship applies to flocculent particles.
The results should prove useful in the further investigation of the behavior of upflow units as physical-chemical reactors.

Five types of geotextile fabric, five types of PAM flocculent, and ten configurations of tea-bag placement were tested.
PAM dissolution rate was found to vary as an inverse power function with flow rate, and directly with the amount of PAM introduced into the flow stream.
The type of geotextile fabric and the type of PAM flocculent had only a minor effect on dissolution rate.

The flocculating agent (PUR)® developed by Procter and Gamble is a powder contained in a single use sachet that is added to 10 litres of raw water with agitation.
After flocculation and precipitation, the water is filtered through a cloth to remove the remaining precipitate.
PUR is capable of rapidly removing cyanobacteria from water, does not cause a release of toxins from the cells during the flocculation process and does reduce the concentration of toxins both by the removal of cells and presumably by adsorption.

Moringa seeds contain a cationic polyelectrolyte that has proved efficient in water treatment, as a substitute to aluminium sulphate and other flocculent.
Several organisations have isolated the active polyelectrolyte to facilitate its use in water treatment plants as well as in algae farms and other industries using flocculation: wineries, paper manufactures, mines.
Now that research and application at the pilot scale have been achieved, production and use of Moringa flocculent in real economic conditions is being developed.

In addition, the process generates large volumes of sludge/waste that require disposal and is normally hazardous due to the high concentrations of heavy metals.
To facilitate sedimentation in the clarifier, a polymeric flocculent was added to the waste stream in the flash mixing chamber.

[7.07] NGC 7331: Examining Density Wave Contributions in Flocculent Galaxies   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
We have used the VLA in three array configurations (B, C, and D) to produce high-resolution (10\arcsec~and 15\arcsec) HI images of NGC 7331, a nearby flocculent spiral galaxy.
We will also compare our results with an HI kinematic study of NGC 5055, a similarly flocculent spiral galaxy which has previously been shown to exhibit density-wave-like velocity perturbations in its optically flocculent disk (Thornley & Mundy 1997).
We discuss the implications of our findings on the theory of spiral density waves and the significance of separate classifications for disk galaxies with apparent flocculent and grand design spiral structure.
