 Flora of the Galapagos Islands
On the whole, Galapagos plants tend to be 'pioneer' species, hardy plants which successfully cross oceans and manage to establish themselves in the often hostile environment of islands.
Because relatively few plants succeed in doing this, the flora is 'depauperate' - there are far fewer species here than in similar environments on the South American mainland.
Meanwhile, survey work continues to assess the status of Galapagos' flora and hopefully discover and safeguard populations of threatened species while funds are raised to tackle the underlying causes.

By 1910, Bunny was working at Vitagraph Studios where the happy-go-lucky, rotund man quickly became an international star of silent film comedies.
At Vitagraph he starred in a series of over 100 wildly popular comedies with the comedienne Flora Finch that were popularly called Bunnyfinches.
John Bunny had only been acting in films for five years when he died from Bright's disease and was interred in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in Brooklyn, New York.

Flora Finch was one of the movies’ earliest comedy stars, and the very first female comedy star.
When Bunny died in 1915, Finch tried to establish herself as a solo star with her own production company and even her own publishing concern (issuing one of the first fan magazines).
By the late 1930s Flora Finch was a salaried member of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s stock company, and was cast as needed for background and bit roles in M-G-M’s glossy features and shorts.

"I had no precedent, nothing to imitate, for Flora Finch's art, based as it was on her angularity and candidly exploited homeliness, never would have fitted me. Other comediennes with equal frankness got their laughs with their fat bodies or their somewhat ghastly grotesquery of gesture.
Traditionally (though with some exception) the funny women in common stage dramas and vaudeville were of ungainly appearance, their grotesque features and manners being what usually made them risible.
Flora Finch, for instance, the then popular Vitagraph comedienne with whom Mabel made at least one film, was noticeably tall and thin.

There are no plot surprises: Laura La Plante stands to inherit millions, 20 years after her uncle’s death, if she is adjudged to be sane in accordance with Cyrus West’s will.
Of course, the person next in line for the inheritance is responsible for attempts to make it appear as if she has gone nuts.
However, along the way there are several amusing moments, thanks to Creighton Hale’s charming performance as Paul Jones, Flora Finch’s natty old maid character, and some fun animated intertitles.
