Ballard married Thomas Chapman, a former chauffeur for Motown, in 1968, and signed with ABC Records in 1968, two weeks after negotiating her relase from Motown on February 22, 1968.
Eventually separating from Chapman, Ballard's house was foreclosed upon, and she found herself back in the Detroit public housing projects on welfare, with three daughters to feed.

Many people including Mary Wilson will insist that Florence Ballard was a better singer than Diana Ross and judging by all the songs I have heard of Florence that is not the case, she was yes a good singer, but not better I am going to say she was just one of the bunch.
Florence Ballard was truly the best singer The Supremes ever had but the choice of material offered her could'nt have been more questionable.
