The Florence Freedom is a minor league baseball team which plays in Florence, Kentucky, in Cincinnati's Northern Kentucky suburbs.
Before 2003, the team was in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and known as the Johnstown Johnnies.
In 2004, the owner of the Freedom was charged with fraud.

The city of Florence is filing a lawsuit today in Boone County Circuit Court to ensure that construction of the Florence Freedom's baseball stadium and parking lot is completed.
Whalen said the Freedom will complete season, and she is optimistic the Freedom will have team next year.
Florence officials expressed high hopes for the team when it was announced in 2001 and some of them -- most notably Whalen -- often made the 100-mile round trip last summer for the Freedom's home games, played in Hamilton, Ohio, last season because work had not begun on its own field.

BURLINGTON - As the Florence Freedom ended its season Monday, three more contractors said they were not paid for building the team's stadium.
There are now 31 liens filed against the stadium, which is owned by the city of Florence and leased to Northern Kentucky Professional Baseball LLC, the ownership group.
The city is seeking to evict the team from the stadium, to have a receiver appointed to take control of the stadium and have the ownership group pay rent that the city has not received.

The Freedom's owners filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Sept. 3 with debts of nearly $9 million.
That was in doubt after the past season, when contractors filed liens totaling more than $4 million against the ballpark, and Hildebrant resigned as managing member of the team in July after allegations surfaced over his bank loans.
Brown would contribute $1.3 million and the city of Florence would contribute $600,000, as long as the creditors dropped their lawsuit against the city.

Mayor Whalen says the suit hopes to ensure the stadium is completed, that the Florence Freedom is able to complete its current season and that a baseball team is in place for next season.
The FBI is currently investigating the Hildebrant's finances in funding the $7.8 million stadium.  Mayor Whalen says the city believes the Hildebrants deliberately and fraudulently misrepresented their personal financial situation to the city.
