  Florence Riley Knapp Obit
Knapp was a member of the First Baptist church and of the Helping Hand society of the church; former regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was also affiliated with the Daughters of the Confederacy.
Knapp was born in Philippi, W. Va. She attended Beaver College, Jenkintown, Pa., and taught in the public schools of West Virginia before her marriage to the late Jacob Henry Knapp.
Knapp, whose death occurred at her home in Washington, D. C., September 26, and whose funeral services were held in the Philippi Baptist Church, September 28, 1944, was born in Elk District, this county, near the Ebenezer Baptist Church, of which she was a member during her girlhood days.

Florence Knapp (October 10, 1873 - January 11, 1988) was, for the last two weeks of her life, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest person in the world.
Born in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, she lived in nearby Montgomery Square much of her life and came from a large and long-lived family, eight of her siblings dying in their 80s and 90s and one sister reaching 108.
Her death shortly thereafter meant that she never appeared in a Guinness Book as oldest living person.

Florence Mae Johnson, the daughter of Ole and Mary (Anderson) Johnson, was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Palermo, N.D., and departed this life on Wednesday (Feb. 20, 2002) at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville, at the age of 82 years, three months and 27 days.
Florence was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church where she enjoyed attending church activities and was active in ELCW and the Anna Circle.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband; one great-grandson, Gavin Donkersloot; her parents; four brothers, Earl, Helmer, Adolf and Walter; and two sisters, Hazel Lundt and Nora Monk.

Knapp lived in Florence for six years, during which time he taught at Studio Art Centers International, continued his studies privately with American painter Leonard Meiselman, and undertook his first restoration of an historic property, located in the mountains of Loro Ciuffenna, Provincia di Arezzo.

In 1893, it was purchased by a group of women, known as the King's Daughters, whose mission was "to work among the poor and needy in His Name." - A Training School for Nurses opened Sept 14, 1914, with a class of 15 women.
Florence Knapp of Providence Hospital, Washington, D. - Due to rumors that the school had no charter and the graduates would not be allowed to take State Board exams, all of the students left in 1916, except for Miss Margaret Beard, who had entered late to replace a student who had resigned.
It was listed on the Board of Examiners' records in 1924 as "up for approval." The school was discontinued in 1951 after 139 nurses had been graduated.
