Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ) was approved for the construction of an instructional workforce facility known as the Advanced Technology Center (ATC).
FCCJ is partnering with the Jacksonville Electric Authority (a publicly-owned utility) and a private solar energy company, Energy Laboratories, Inc., to demonstrate a 25 to 100 KW solar thermal engery pilot system as part of the ATC building.
If the solar thermal project successfully demonstrates the design of a new type of power plant, which is mostly solar and uses very little fossil fuel, then the impact to new power plant construction throughout Florida and the world would be profound.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority's "Skyway" is one of five urban "people mover" systems that were built beginning in the U.S. beginning in the 1970s.
In the meantime, construction began in 1993 on the elevated structure from Central to FCCJ, and in 1995 on the river crossing.
