Project funds were advanced to the Florida Water Conservancy District to rehabilitate, enlarge, and extend the portions of the Florida Farmers Ditch and Florida Canal distribution systems that serve remaining lands on Florida Mesa.

The goal of this specific project is to meet the standards legislated by the government for phosphorus concentrations in the region, specifically a decrease from an initial concentration of 200 ppb to a final concentration of 50 ppb, a 75% reduction.

FLS was formed in 1972 by The Florida Bar to primarily act as a statewide focal point to expand the availability of legal assistance to the poor in Florida.
FLS also supported the activities of the Florida Clients Council, an organization of low income residents who were members of local program boards of directors, that focused on community legal education and policy advocacy on behalf of the poor in Florida.
While all federal funding was terminated, Florida Bar Foundation funding brought unprecedented expansion of FLS as it became the lead organization, free from LSC restrictions, in preserving full advocacy for the poor in the entire state of Florida.

 Whooping Crane Recovery Activities Oct 2003 to March 2004
Chicks were provided for the nonmigratory flock in Florida (16), the ultralight project (17), five held back for genetic purposes as future breeders, one held back as a display bird, and two held back with health problems.
In 2003, 16 of 19 whooping cranes (84%) allocated to the project made the migration and were released.

The Florida Black Bear Curriculum is a joint project of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Defenders of Wildlife.
