Flower - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Flowering plants are heterosporangiate (producing two types of reproductive spores) and the pollen (male spores) and ovules (female spores) are produced in different organs, but these are together in a bisporangiate strobilus that is the typical flower.
For example, the two subclasses of flowering plants may be distinguished by the number of floral organs in each whorl: dicotyledons typically having 4 or 5 organs (or a multiple of 4 or 5) in each whorl and monocotyledons having three or some multiple of three.

The sunflower is the state flower of the U.S. state of Kansas, and one of the city flowers of Kitakyushu, Japan.

The function of a flower is to produce (A small hard fruit) seeds through (Reproduction involving the union or fusion of a male and a female gamete) sexual reproduction.
In (The branch of biology that studies plants) botany, a flower is regarded as a modified (The tube of a tobacco pipe) stem (Eames, 1961) with shortened internodes and bearing, at its nodes, structures that may be highly modified (The period of time during which you are absent from work or duty) leaves.
In essence, a flower structure forms on a modified shoot or axis with an apical (Undifferentiated tissue from which new cells are formed, as at the tip of a stem or root) meristem that does not grow continuously (growth is determinate).

 Sunflower - Sunflower Frost Tolerance
The center portion of the head, and by far the greater part, is composed of inconspicuous individual flowers, one for each seed that may develop.
These flowers mature in circles from the outside of the flower head to the center, so that at various stages, the flowers ready for pollination appear as a yellow circular band in the brownish or dark center of the head.
The result of frost in the flowering period, then, could be circular bands of undeveloped seed that would vary with individual flower heads from band around the outside edge to a spot in the center.

Rapid Rust Increase After Flowering is Due to Spread Within a Plant, Not Change in Susceptibility
Furthermore, the late-appearing pustules appeared on flower heads and stems that had not yet been exposed at the time the initial inoculum was applied.
Therefore, the increased level of rust commonly appearing near flowering is not due to a greater susceptibility of plants at this stage.
The existence of extensive, elongated areas of rust disease on the flower and stem of perennial ryegrass is a common observation, but the process by which they develop was previously unknown and generally assumed to be the result of numerous individual stem infections arising from airborne spores.
