Floyd County is situated atop a high plateau of the Blue Ridge Mountains which divides the eastward flowing from the westward flowing waters.
In the county, the population was spread out with 22.20% under the age of 18, 6.90% from 18 to 24, 27.60% from 25 to 44, 27.40% from 45 to 64, and 15.90% who were 65 years of age or older.

She tried cases in Floyd County for one week before a Virginia Supreme Court judge issued a stay and the position reverted to Dennis Nagel, Hannett’s original choice.

The Floyd Country Store, home of the Friday Night Jamboree, was constructed around 1913, and has been an important part of the community ever since.
Along about 1983, two of the store's former owners were in a local bluegrass band that gathered at the store most every Friday night for a practice session.
The March, 2000 issue of Country Living magazine identified the Floyd County Store as one of the two best places in the country to hear bluegrass music (the other place was a club in New York City).

King, the emergency coordinator for Floyd County for ARES, said the tower will be equipped with a rotatible beam.
In emergencies, King said, ARES members “shadow a person in charge who needs to get in touch with others.” In order to maintain their proficiency in needed skills and be ready in times of emergencies, the amateur radio operators with ARES work in public events to assist local law enforcement.
King, who began leading the local ARES after Floyd County investigator Steve Graham stepped down as coordinator, said there are approximately 100 amateur radio operators in Floyd County.
