Gottfredson fully expected that the assignment would only last a few months, never dreaming that it was the start of a job that would last for over forty five years.
Gottfredson wasted no time in launching Mickey into a tradition of adventurous exploits, as well as introducing a large cast of regular characters that had originated in the animated features.
Gottfredson's Mickey continued on fighting such awesome adversaries like shyster Eli Squinch, The Phantom Blot, and Captain Vulture, with settings ranging from floating islands to haunted castles --until the early 1950s when King Features issued a brilliant edict eliminating the use of action-adventure in humorous strips.

I´d also buy a Floyd Gottfredson Library containing all of his classic Mickey Mouse stories (uncensored) without thinking it twice (although I know they have been reprinted in Italy several times, and I have myself a good deal of them collected in the 80´s Gladstone comic books)...
I'd buy libraries of Gottfredson, Barks, Rosa and Van Horn providing they are as thick as The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck or World of the Dragonlords.

Although Mickey Mouse's personality and charisma were already formed in the thirties and forties through Floyd Gottfredson's daily comic strips, it is the opinion of most people that Murry was the primary person to continue this legacy in the comic book form (compare with Gottfredson, Strobl and Barks here!
During the forties, these were only reprints of Floyd Gottfredson's daily adventures, but around 1950, new serials were produced especially for the magazine.
Already some years earlier, Murry had gotten the job of redrawing certain sequences of Floyd Gottfredson's classic story, "Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot" from 1939.

 The Comics Reporter
One thing that's interesting to me about Floyd Gottfredson is how he used certain visual cues in his strip during the Mickey Mouse adventure days to increase the sense of motion and action.
It's more noticeable in an action scene, but even in a throwaway panel like here the lean of the bodies, the shapes of the faces, the belts and even the bumper work together to hustle the reader from one side of the panel to the other.
If you read a bunch of Mickey Mouse strips in a row on paper, like in the old Smithsonian collection, Gottfredson's reliance on "lines" is a major reason that the strip has a kind of crazy, careening energy.

 Topolino
