The maintenance and restoration of Sergeant Floyd has been the subject of considerable effort by the citizens of Sioux City assisted with contributions from the State of Iowa, the city, and local businesses since November 1983.[6] Her restoration continues and is expected to be completed before the vessel opens as a museum in January 1989.
Floyd died on August 20, 1804, and was buried on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi near the site of Sioux City; a prominent monument later erected in his memory is a National Historic Landmark.

The remains were rescued and re-interred about two hundred feet farther from the river.
The territory along the eastern shore of the Missouri River was ceded by the Sioux, Sac and Fox Indians on July 15, 1830, and settlers began to flock into the Iowa Territory.
Floyd's Bluff, as it was sometimes called, was so much of a success as to have secured the honor of being the county seat.

 Floyd's Monument
The bones recovered from the 1857 grave and buried beneath the marble slab, consisting of the skull, mandible, tibia, fibula, clavicle, and some ribs and vertebrae, were encased in concrete beneath the base of the 100-foot-tall obelisk.
Before Floyd's remains were sealed in the concrete core of the obelisk's base, someone made two plaster casts of the skull and jaw, and took photographs, and also took photographs of them.
The other, in the Sioux City museum, served as the basis for a reconstruction of Floyd's face by a forensic artist in 1997, and placed on a specially designed and suitably uniformed mannequin, which is housed in the Sioux City Welcome Center museum.

From 1933 to 1975, she was involved in Missouri River improvement work, moving men, equipment and supplies, and setting navigation buoys along the river.
The Floyd was about to be decommissioned, when Congress authorized her to be converted for one final task, a floating bicentennial exhibit for the Army Corps of Engineers.
After her stint as a floating exhibit, the Floyd was decommissioned and moored in St. Louis, where she served briefly as a museum.

Whiting said the Floyd River kill wipes out the total recovery made after a 1998 incident, which also was caused by Midwest Farmers Co-op.
It ran down a drainage ditch to the Floyd River about a half-mile to the west, passing a residential area and a bike trail.
Co-op workers pumped water from the ditch and two other places that drain into the river, loading it into tanker trucks that were ready to take it to farm fields.

Floyd was, of course, the callous mastermind responsible for flooding (temporarily) one of the world's most beautiful places - Glen Canyon on the Colorado River and San Juan River.

On November 28, Lewis left Clark in charge of the boat and the men at the mouth of the Kaskaskia River and proceeded by land to St. Louis to confer with the Spanish authorities.

On July 30 they reached a high bluff near the river in modern Nebraska, which they would call Council Bluff, for there they had their first council with the chiefs of the Otos and Missouris, informing them of the change in sovereignty in Louisiana; they remained at the bluffs until August 2.

Sergeant Charles Floyd is best known as the only man to die during the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the first United States soldier to die west of the Mississippi.
In 1894, Floyd’s Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition were rediscovered, renewing interest in the young soldier and his gravesite.

Photos: The back side of Hurricane Floyd was much harsher on inland bays than the front side.
After brushing past the Sussex County coast in mid-afternoon, Hurricane Floyd had one parting shot for the inland bays with high winds crashing waves over docks and bulkheads before heading off to Atlantic City as a tropical storm at 5 p.m.

I fished little River today and cault some bass,chubs,bluegill and redeyes but no trout the water is still low but has good color.
I fished from 3:30pm to 6:30pm I didn't see any trout or any hatches but I did see some fish hitting on top as soon as I got there.
