Leo Soileau's fiddle was just right for Cajun swing
Soileau formed the Three Aces in 1934, when western music was beginning to grow more popular in southwest Louisiana, and Cajun bands were dropping the accordion and picking up stringed instruments.
Among Soileau's recordings were Cajun versions of such American standards as "Red River Valley" and "Birmingham Jail," as well as polkas, Mexican songs, and practically anything else that he thought would strike the popular fancy.
Soileau quit playing altogether in the late 1940s and moved back to Ville Platte, where he was born Jan. 19, 1904.

It's commanded by 65-year-old Floyd Soileau (pronounced 'Swallow'), an impossibly enthusiastic impresario whose opulent headquarters, located in a converted bank, rather suggest the Cajun equivalent of Atlantic Records' Ahmet Ertegun or Motown's Berry Gordy.
Soileau was also behind the first authentically Cajun album: a 1961 record snappily titled Vin Bruce Sings Jole Blon And Cajun Classics.
That Soileau has cause for concern is only backed up the fact that it's alarmingly easy to talk about Cajun music and culture in the past tense.

Floyd Soileau is in some ways the unofficial mayor of Acadiana and certainly one of its biggest boosters -- a sort of one-man chamber of commerce.

In addition, Floyd rerecorded and released "Paper In My Shoe(1036)," which again became a regional jukebox phenomenon.
In the early 90s, Floyd, who was reticent to depart from the LP and cassette format, as traditions die hard in South Louisiana, repackaged the latter two undertakings as extended play CDs, with material added from the earlier two efforts.
Evidently, Boozoo's contract with Floyd Soileau wasn't exactly ironclad or exclusive during this time frame because a live CD (at Richard's) came along in 1987--Boozoo Chavis With Nathan & Zydeco Cha-Cha's--a shared album.

Run by Floyd Soileau, the small independent Jin label released a lot of the earliest Louisiana swamp pop in the late '50s and early '60s, occasionally releasing product in a similar vein by Texas musicians.
Occasionally, too, it was rawer and bluesier than the stereotypical swamp pop sound, as in Doug Ardoin & the Boogie Kings' raunchy rockabilly pounder "Southland" and the fairly penetrating blues-rock sides by Texans Mary McCoy and Rockin' Dave Allen (whose "Can't Stand to See You Go" sounds rather like Slim Harpo).
Unfortunately, Soileau's most successful masters were sold to bigger labels, which means that the national hits "I'm a Fool to Care" (by Joe Barry) and "This Should Go on Forever" (by Rod Bernard) aren't included.
