 | | Utilities are enhancing their boilers' heat rate and lowering equipment maintenance costs by using the Posimetric bulk solid feeder developed by Pennsylvania Crusher Corp. in Broomall, Pa. The machine delivers a more uniform feed rate of crushed coal to the pulverizers that reduce the fuel to powdered form before it is blown into boiler furnaces. |
 | | As the coal flows continuously into the feeder, it bridges, or packs, between the side walls of the rotating spool and remains locked in place as the spool rotates. |
 | | Georgia Power Co. installed two sets of four Posimetric feeders on its 1,250-megawatt plant outside Newnan, Ga. "We used to use scales to dump 500-pound buckets of crushed coal from the bunker into rotat- ing paddle feeders that delivered the coal to the pulverizer," recalled Fred Stavely, a senior plant engineer at the power plant. |
