Method and apparatus for measuring the content or quantity of a given element by means of X-ray radiation - Patent ...
The radiation passes out through the opposite side of the anode as transmission radiation and is directed onto the element to be measured, whereupon fluorescense occurs, said fluorescense being caused by the characteristic lines.
The fluorescense radiation occurring when the element in question is excited, is reflected from the examined sample and caused to pass through a further filter in which the lines in the fluorescense radiation characteristic of the element in question are filtered out.
The primary characteristic X-ray emission through the window produces fluorescense in the element to be measured, the intensity of the characteristic fluorescense lines reflected from the sample 5' being measured by means of the GM-tube 6.

Aim: The study was aimed to develop a methodology for an automated two-colour fluorescense measurement of cell structures, and to apply that method to the study of proliferating versus resting tumour cells in human breast cancers.
A thresholding between proliferating and resting tumor cells was based on the green fluorescense of the internal reference, too.
The results demonstrated that an automated approach in fluorescense cytometry is feasible, thus opening new perspectives in biological marker studies on a cell-by-cell level.

U.S. Patent: 5571388 - Sequencing near infrared and infrared fluorescense labeled DNA for detecting using laser diodes ...
The separated samples are scanned photoelectrically with a laser diode and a sensor, wherein the laser scans with scanning light at a wavelength within the absorbance spectrum of said fluorescently marked DNA samples and light is sensed at the emission wavelength of the marked DNA.
The strands are marked with fluorescent labels that have their maximum fluorescense and their maximum absorbance at wavelengths of light in the infrared and near infrared region.
The strands are irradiated with light in the infrared or near infrared region from a laser diode and the light emitted from the fluorescent labels is detected and used to obtain information about the DNA strands.

Is it possilble to combine the 2 methods, fluorescense and HE-Staining, or is there another staining method, that works better with fluorescense?
I suggest you do as most people do which is use a nuclear fluorescent counterstain such as DAPI or Hoechst 33342 for overall structure or worse comes to worse take a phase contrast picture and do overlay.

View from the Corner: Slow Light
I think in the real world both are always going on at the same time, but I mostly ignore the fluorescence for purposes of this talk.
But if by "fluorescense" you just mean "light emitted by the atoms"...
Well, the time delay between the incident wave and the copy-wave emitted by the medium is *equivalent* to the time delay between the absorption of a photon and its re-emission.

The air to be analyzed is drawn in through quartz glass tubes containing gold-vaporized substrate with large surface and this method, the gaseous mercury present in the air sample is sorbed by amalgamation.
After a thermal desorption step, the mercury can be determined by atomic fluorescense spectrometry (AFS).
Because of mercury's high vapour pressure (0,0039 hPa at 30 °C), this element can be analyzed by atomic fluorescense spectrometry using the cold vapour technique without prior thermal atomization.

Traditionally, after medical or laboratory equipment has undergone autoclaving, it has taken 6-24 hours to detect the bacterial activity indicative of an imperfect process.
To shorten the time required to detect a positive result to 30-60 minutes, a computerized detection device measures the fluorescense (under ultra-violet light) of any active bacteria which may be present in the specially designed biological indicator capsule.
After investigating which phosphor coating would maximize the response of the bacterial fluorescense, it was determined that Bacillus stearothermophilus was best dectectable under the 351nM wavelength of UV radiation.

 Vaseline Explanation And History
When placed under a fl light (or ultraviolet rays), vaseline glass will "glow" or fluoresce.
The high energy emissions of electrons from the fl light cause the uranium oxide particles in the vaseline glass to become unstable thereby causing this fluorescense.
The way we like to describe the effect is that it causes the piece of vaseline glass to look like it has exploded in flames.
