Bass Fishing Resource Guide® - The Fluorocarbon Advantage
Before fluorocarbon was first introduced into bass fishing, fluorocarbon was and still is used primarily by fly fisherman as tippets and also by saltwater enthusiasts as leader line due to its invisible properties, stiffness, strength and abrasion resistance.
Fluorocarbon is very abrasive resistance due to its hardness, and for those of you that have to line watch with nylon monofilament, those days are over with the sensitivity (minimal stretch) features of fluorocarbon.
Because fluorocarbon comes the closest to the light refractive index of water it is virtually invisible to the fish when submerged and it is great for clear water flipping and pitching where as braid is more visible in clear water.

In fact, fluorocarbon has been offered for years as a leader material because of this property, but recent improvements in the processing have enabled makers to manufacture it with enough flexibility to be used solely as fishing line for bass.

Article coated with fluorocarbon polymer - Patent 4177320   (Site not responding. Last check: )
It is well known that fluorocarbon polymers have excellent physical properties such as low abrasiveness, non-tackiness and high resistances to chemicals and heat and are used in a wide variety of fields such as domestic uses (such as in irons, frypans, etc.), the food industry, the electric industry, the machine industry and like industries.
Further, the addition of a fluorocarbon polymer to a primer composition is disadvantageous in that the final coated article is lowered in resistance to corrosion because of insufficient bonding between the substrate and primer coat.
The fluorocarbon polymer may be used in any form such as powder, an aqueous dispersion obtained by an emulsion polymerization of a fluorocarbon monomer, a dispersion obtained by dispersing fluorocarbon polymer powder in an aqueous medium, an organosol, or an organosol-in-water emulsion.

According to the present invention the problems of chemicals resistance, temperature resistance and metal leaching etc. are not caused, and the fluorocarbon resins which have so far been regarded as difficult to weld together, are in a liquid-tightly welded state by the special constitution.
In this case, the heating is continued until said fluorocarbon resin enters the pleats, and the end part of the filter material made of a fluorocarbon resin is melted at at least the surface and welded with said entering fluorocarbon resin to form an integrated mass.
A fluorocarbon resin used for the cap may be any of the foregoing fluorocarbon resins, but PTFE, FEP, PFA and EPE are preferred in terms of chemicals resistance.

 Materials: Fluorocarbon
Fluorocarbons make excellent general-purpose seals due to their exceptional resistance to chemicals, oil, and temperature extremes (-15° F to +400° F).
Since double bonds are the focus for chemical attack, the saturated structure of fluorocarbons renders them impervious to harmful agents (such as oxygen, ozone, and UV light) that typically degrade unsaturated materials.
Perhaps the most well-known fluorocarbon manufacturer is DuPont Dow Elastomers, to the point that the trade name for their compound, Viton®, is often used as if it was a generic term for FKM.

We have heard of some anglers that swear by fluorocarbon, using them for their main line....while fluorocarbon is strong and abrasive resistant we don't recommend this because it is very expensive, doesn't knot as well as more flexible mono, and is much too stiff to cast for distance or accuracy.
The one major downside to using a premium fluorocarbon leader like Seaguar's is the cost, which can be double, or in some cases even triple the cost of standard mono leaders.
