Western concert flute - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Western concert flute or C flute is a transverse (or side-blown) flute, a musical instrument of the woodwind family.
The standard concert flute is pitched in C and has a range of about three and a half octaves starting from the musical note C4 (corresponding to middle C on the piano).
Good flute technique requires that the flute be pressed against the lower lip in such a way that it is possible to efficiently blow directly at the far wall of the lip plate (embouchure) at any angle.

The previous statement shows that the flute maker of Agricola’s time was conscious of modal systems, and that he was being influenced by new major and minor diatonic scales because he used crossfingering as a way to transit, not only from Hypolydian to the Phrygian mode, but also to new diatonic scales.

 Gold Springs... good?
However, IMHO gold (and other non-traditional spring materials in the engineering trade) is nowhere near the best material, because ideally, to keep this force increase to a minimum during travel, the spring needs to be operating with as much displacement as possible form its rest position.
The ideal would be a spring such as you suggest, but thin enough and with enough pre-tension, to be both operating with a large displacement and close to its elastic limit.
Note that steel springs are the norm for oboes, where the `light-touch` demands of the very delicate mechanism are far greater than for a flute.
