 Making the Flyer Fly
Up until that time the Wright Type "A" Flyer was considered un-flyable as an R/C model, but it seemed like a fair challenge, so we decided to go ahead with the project.
From that point on, the Flyer was as stable and honest as any other glider I’ve flown in its’ size range.
As a result of prop torque, the model turns better to the right then the left, but is very controllable in either direction.

The Salmon Flyer   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
If The Salmon Flyer is to move in a commercial direction and, perhaps, even if it does not, I believe there should be a stated mission and purpose for the organization, a name (The Jock Scott Society??!!), bylaws and a governing body such as a board of directors or officers.
But I suspect that if The Flyer moves to the next plane, such as magazinehood, there may be contracts to sign and financial committments more significant than "The Group" has seen.
Personally, if The Flyer could be maintained as a publication dedicated to the art of the Classic Salmon Fly, I would like to see it expanded with glossy photos, greater reader participation and, perhaps, even commercial support.

It told him that that would be pointless, since anybody who would read the flyer would already be attending the convention.
Initially, we were putting out the flyers in piles of twenty.
Andrew and Lester noticed that everytime some of the boycott flyers were set out, a someone wearing a special coloured badge -- I forget the colour, but it was the colour that indicated that the person was part of the convention committee -- would spirit away the entire pile.

SurferMag Message Boards: Flyer I vs. Flyer II ?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
A Flyer I is a better board for small waves than the FLyer II, and like LeeD said, this is mostly the result of tail shape.
The Flyer 1 would be better for you when the surf is 4 ft or less.
I have both a FLyer I and a Flyer II and they are both 2 9/16" thick.

Hasegawa 1/16 scale 1903 Wright Flyer
I first saw the Hasegawa 1:16 Wright Flyer Kit sometime in the mid to late '70's, probably around the 75th anniversary of the first flight.
Included with the plans of the Flyer are the scale drawings of the launching dolly and the 5 piece-60 foot launch rail.
That was the launch restraining eyelet and the line that held the Flyer onto the rail (a 2.5 inch piece of dyed thread on the model) that Orville and Wilbur had to pull on that cold December morning 100 years ago.

You can jam the tail hard on the Flyers perhaps in part because of the bumped hips by the side fins, my JC has the same design but it doesn't sink in and angle as easily as my Flyer seemed to, but maybe it's the rocker too.

And San Francisco still uses about 25 Flyer E800's and they all still have their so called "Spoilers" and I have not heard of any trouble with them being in the way of the ropes during operation.

Review | The High Flyer by Susan Howatch
By then it felt as though it might be a suspense thriller or perhaps a novel of the occult, a bit of veiled religious propaganda or maybe even a mystery.
The high flyer in question is Carter Graham, a beautiful and successful partner in a London law firm with a passion for order and a lifeplan that won't allow deviation.
The result is not so much a story with religious overtones as much as one touched with the spiritual, in many angles and several forms.

Amazon.com: The High Flyer (Ballantine Reader's Circle): Books: Susan Howatch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The narrator, Carter Graham, is a successful London lawyer, a "high flyer" whose thoroughly secular plan for a perfect life (clothes, car, kids, etc.) is proceeding quite punctually, thanks to her strong sense of entitlement and her talent for social manipulation.
Additionally, her Starbridge series and "The High Flyer" continue to bring me a spiritual depth of story on a realistic, rational and intellectual plane that I get nowhere else, either in novels or organised religion or philosophical debate.
While her exploration of the psychological and spiritual issues central to human behavior is skillful and thought provoking as usual, "The High Flyer" left me with a feeling of distaste.

Orville Wright ended the Flyer's exile in 1943, but did not live to see its return.

In his agreement with the Smithsonian, Orville gave the Flyer its final home: the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. When it returned in 1948, it finally received a triumphant homecoming.

Arguably the Wright Flyer holds the most important place in the history of aviation, and it's fitting that Great Planes would produce a first class R/C replica of the Wright Flyer on the 100th anniversary of its legendary flight.

Sometime later I had the idea that it would be fun--perhaps even interesting to others--to build and test a model of the 1903 'Flyer.' I was able to obtain a little financial support from NASA to help pay for the model and the wind tunnel tests.
I described to Howard my plan for carrying out wind tunnel tests and obtaining the first data about the flight characteristics of the 1903 'Flyer.' We knew that would be useful information for building a piloted version.
Another group associated with the AIAA Wright 'Flyer' project built and tested a 1/8 scale model of the 'Flyer.' With all of these data we already knew a lot about how the airplane should fly--but not everything.
