The Flying Squad is a branch of London's Metropolitan Police force.
In 1978 it was renamed the "Central Robbery Squad".
A number of scandals involving bribery and corruption were revealed, and on 7 July 1977, the squad's commander, Detective Chief Superintendent Kenneth Drury, was convicted of five counts of corruption and jailed for eight years.

A MOBILE team of 'Lollipop' people will soon be flying to the rescue of schools across the Bath and North East Somerset area, to ensure pupils can start and finish the day in safety.
The Council will be the first ex-Avon authority to set up such a 'flying squad' - in fact, it is believed to be the only authority in the country, apart from Wolverhampton and Cornwall, to have such a scheme.
