Long-eared Flying Mouse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Long-eared Flying Mouse (Idiurus macrotis), or Long-eared Scaly-tailed Flying Squirrel, is a species of flying mouse from western and central Africa.
When the limbs are stretched wide in a star-shape, the membranes become taught and allows the rodent to glide from tree to tree.
Long-eared scaly-tailed flying squirrels are about 20cm long and weigh 30g, but not much else is known about them because they are very hard to keep alive in captivity.

The Southern Flying Squirrel's scientific name, Claucomys volans translates to "gray mouse flying," and that is exactly how it appears.
Contrary to its name, however, the flying squirrel does not truly fly, but rather glides from tree to tree, launching itself from as high as 60 feet in the air.
Gliding ability is necessary because flying squirrels are almost entirely arboreal, living up in the trees and rarely on the ground.

User Performance in Relation to 3D Input Device Design
Although a mouse is less dexterous than a pen like input device (a stylus), the fact that a mouse can be more easily acquired is one important reason that made it the dominant 2 DOF input device.
