Flypress - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Flypress is a metalworking machine tool used to shape metal somewhat like a flsmith.
It is frequently used to punch holes in sheet metal in one operation, rather than by cutting the hole or drilling, etc. The machine is manually operated - powered presses are also used but are not usually called flypresses.
The manual machine works by using a coarse screw to convert the gross rotation of an overhead handle into a small downward movement with the force multiplied up considerably.

Flypresses are a type of screw press that is operated manualy or by power through a friction drive.
The force of stopping the flywheel would produce a theoreticaly infinite force, however it is limited by the stretch of the heavy frame.
FlyPresses are used for coining, pressing, punching and forging.

The latest episode in the continuing saga of the Croydon Caving Club flypress began one bright autumn morning when Ron Smith called at my home with what he described as suitable transport for removing the weighty machine from the Coke-Hole.
As, hitherto, it had always been assumed that transport was the only problem involved we felt that we would only have a few minutes work on our hands.......
After much effort, unload it and carry it to the back garden, wbere it now resides waiting for someone else to adopt it - 23.

The big hole, that you use to fit the king pins, after the Silentblock has been removed from the top of the swivel hub, is a recepticle for water which works its way down.
Doing the king pins, if you ever have to, is a pain in the butt sweat and tears job, though a flypress would help.
Can be done without the reamer, but ended up buying one second hand in case I ever needed to do it again.
