Focke-Wulf - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1937 shareholders ousted Heinrich Focke, and he founded, with Gerd Achgelis, Focke Achgelis to specialise in helicopters.
The first fully controllable helicopter (as opposed to autogyro) was the Focke-Wulf Fw 61, demonstrated by test pilot Hanna Reitsch in 1936 in Berlin.

 General Facts
Since Focke's death in 1979 nobody prevented the wind tunnel from dilapidation, because the Focke family lacks funds to maintain the building and the temporary means are not even sufficient to make it watertight.
Focke was already 70 years old and you might wonder why he didn't settle down like other people of his age.
Historical significance of Henrich Focke's wind tunnel could not be overestimated, since this is nothing less than the last completely preserved research laboratory of one of the great international aviation pioneers.

 Heinrich Focke—Fa 61
Focke and Achgelis built seventeen prototypes and one production version before the assembly line was bombed.
It sufficiently impressed the Nazis that they allowed Focke and Achgelis to form a new helicopter company and awarded them a contract for an enlarged version of the Fa 61 that could lift 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms) of cargo.
Focke's Fa 61 was far more maneuverable than Bréguet's aircraft and also could fly for extended periods of time.

 Hanna Reitsch (1912-1979), Pioneer Aviatrix
The Focke-Achgelis GmbH was an offshoot of the Focke-Wulf Flugzeugbau, established after Focke had been dismissed from the latter company by the Nazis as a political embarrassment.
Focke's first experience of rotorcraft construction and operation was gained from building the Cierva C.19 and C.30 autogiros under licence, and then in 1934 he built and flew successfully a scale model helicopter that rose to a height of some 18m.
Although his helicopter provided loads of plubicity for the high technology then being developed in the Third Reich, Heinrich Focke was considered "politically unreliable" and in 1936 was removed from control of the company he had founded, and Focke Wulf became a mass producer of military airplanes.
