Focke-Wulf Ta 152 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Focke-Wulf Ta 152 was a WW2 Luftwaffe high-altitude interceptor fighter.
The Ta 152 was a development of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 aircraft, but the prefix was changed from 'Fw' to 'Ta' in honor of Kurt Tank who headed the design team.
The Ta 152H was among the fastest prop-fighters of the war, capable of speeds up to 755 km/h (472 mph) at 13 500 m (41000 feet)(using the GM-1 boost) and 560 km/h (350 mph) at sea level (using the MW-50 boost).

The Ta 152C-3 was identical to the Ta 152C-2 with the exception that the MK 108 cannon was replaced with a MK 103 cannon.
The Ta 152H-1 was armed with one engine-mounted 30 mm MK 108 cannon with 90 rounds and two 20 mm MG 151/20 cannon in the wings with 175 rpg.

The Ta 152 lineage can be traced back through the 'long-nosed' Fw190 D varients with their powerful supercharged Jumo 213 V-12 engines designed to enhance the high altitude performance of the earlier Fw 190A series.
The Ta 152 was so different to the original Fw 190 with its short radial engine that to the casual observer, it is hard to connect the two.

 Focke-Wulf ( Kurt Tank ) Ta 152
One such German aircraft was the Focke-Wulf Ta 152, whose blueprints were purchased by the Japanese in April of 1945.
The basis of the Ta 152 was the Fw 190D airframe and throughout the life of the aircraft's evolution, various styles of wing, engine, weapon, and other changes were made to it.
The development of the Ta 152 (the Ta stood for Kurt Tank, the designer of this aircraft) came about as the Luftwaffe saw the threat of high-altitude bombers and reconnaissance aircraft which could be fielded by the allies and which would prove difficult, if not impossible, by current Luftwaffe interceptors to engage.

The extended wing (14.5m), high altitude Ta 152H was indeed a sterling performer with a top speed of 755 km/h (472 mph) and a service ceiling of 15,000 m (49,215 ft).

 Focke Wulf Fw 190A-8
The Focke Wulf was for the early years of the war considered Germany's "other iron in the fire" as far as the Luftwaffe was concerned.
There would be later designs such as the F series for fighter-bombers, and the Ta 152 for high altitude work as well as the powerful D series powered by a Jumo inline engine, but for the typical radial air-superiority fighter, the Fw 190A-8 was the last.
This gun was synchronized with the propeller, and thus may explain the discrepancies (Focke Wulfe may have tinkered with the synchronization timing and/or increased the engine RPMs).
