		In the modern age, it was the symbol of Moldovia’s and Wallachia’s Union on January 24, 1859 that laid the groundwork of the Romanian state.
		Focsani was the seat of the first institutions of the newborn unified Romanian state — the Central Commission and the Court of Appeal.
		The capital city of this county is the municipality of Focsani with a population of 100,000 inhabitants.

	The History of the Town of Focsani
		Thus, between 1653-1654, archdeacon Paul de Alep wrote that Focsani was a big town but, due to the military action deployed in the area (the war between Matei Basarab and Vasile Lupu) a great port of the inhabitants left it.
		It's in Focsani too, that the Central Committee and the Court of Cassation and Law, which were meant to lay the foundations of the new Romanian modern state organization, used to hold their meetings.
		On the 8th of December 1917, the inhabitants of Focsani witnessed the regrettable truth being concluded with the Control Powers, but the new political-military events brought about the retreat of the German army out of the town on the 10th of November 1918.

		New York, February 22, 2006—Prosecutors in the eastern city of Focsani today indicted journalist Sebastian Oancea for possessing classified military documents about Western forces in Afghanistan and Iraq, the second such arrest in less than week, according to local and international press reports.
		Oancea, Focsani correspondent for the national daily Ziua, faces up to seven years in prison, the prosecutor general's office told The Associated Press.
		Authorities searched Oancea's home and seized his computer last week; they questioned again him on Tuesday before charging him, AP said.
