Fog Bowl (NFL) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Fog Bowl was the name given to the December 31, 1988 NFL playoff game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chicago Bears.
A heavy, dense fog rolled over Chicago's Soldier Field during the 2nd quarter, cutting visibility to about 15-20 yards for the rest of the game.
The fog was so thick that both teams were forced to use their running game because receivers couldn't see the long passes thrown to them.

Critics of the salary cap note that the driving reason for the cap was to maximize the profitability of the NFL teams, and limit the power of NFL players to command the high salaries they are said to deserve in exchange for bringing in large numbers of paying fans to the stadiums.
Although the NFL in 2004 is dominated at virtually every position by African-American athletes, that was not always the case.

But late in the second quarter a heavy fog slid off of Lake Michigan and over Soldier Field, cutting visibility to a minimum for the rest of the game.
As the game progressed the Bears hung on for a 20-12 victory, but the dense fog turned the match into a power running game and scoring was limited to field goals.
During the second half the visibility was down to 15 or 20 yards and TV and radio announcers had trouble knowing what was happening on the field.

The Eagles have had the look of one of the NFL's top clubs thus far in 2004, defeating the Giants, Vikings, and Lions by double digits en route to their 3-0 start.
Perhaps the teams' most memorable confrontation came in the infamous 1988 "Fog Bowl," an NFC Divisional Playoff in the Windy City that Chicago won, 20-12.
The secondary was a concern for the Eagles entering the 2004 season, and though it is hardly cause for panic, the team does rank just 24th in the NFL against the pass (251.3 yards per game).

The Seattle Bowl is contracted to match the No. 4 team from the MWC against the No. 6 team from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
That meant the Seattle Bowl, which pitted Oregon as a replacement team against Wake Forest on Dec. 30 at Seahawks Stadium, was required to refund the MWC's $250,000 participation fee by Feb. 1, per ASI's contract with the conference.
The primary issue for Seattle Bowl recertification is producing evidence the game is able to generate sufficient revenue, which it has struggled to do under Daw's ownership despite decent attendance and respectable television ratings.

Starting things off were notable bad-weather games such as Denver's hard-fought Monday Night victory against the Packers in the snow, the infamous `snow plow' game that put the Patriots on the board (and gave them the win), and the `fog bowl' divisional playoff between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears.
Starting things off are the Oakland/L.A. Raiders' best 80s moments, followed by the Washington Redskins, the 1985 Chicago Bears with their fearsome 46 defense, and the 1986 New York Giants with the amazing defensive efforts of LB Lawrence Taylor (and Harry Carson's trademark Gatorade shenanigans).
