A problem in a thrust reverser caused one F100 of the Brazilian airline TAM to crash in São Paulo shortly after take-off, killing 104 in 1996.

The Fokker company of the Netherlands started to develop the F70 airliner in November 1992 with an aim to replace it's ageing Fokker F28 airliner, with a more modern and fuel efficent aircraft.
Althought offical production of the Fokker F70 is completed, rekkof ("Fokker" spelt backwards) has, since 1999, tried to negotiate the re-opening of both the Fokker F100 and Fokker F70 lines.

Fokker went on to develop many successful World War I fighter aircraft, particularly the superlative Fokker D.VII and the DR.I, known as the "Red-Baron" (see Avsim's recent review of SimTech's DR-1 Deluxe).
Fokker's best selling aircraft between the two World Wars was the three-engined F.VII, which had the world's first air cooled engine, of which 230 were built.
