The Fokker F27 Friendship is a turboprop airliner designed and built by the Dutch aircraft manufacturer Fokker.

Probably the closest to being the fabled DC-3 replacement, the Fokker F-27 Friendship, including the Fairchild built F-27 and FH-227, was built in greater numbers than any other western turboprop airliner.
The Fokker F-27 began life as a 1950 design study known as the P275, a 32 seater powered by two RollsRoyce Dart turboprops.
This original prototype was powered by Dart 507s and would have seated 28, by the time the second prototype had flown (in January 1957) the fuselage length grew to allow seating for 32.

Fokker Services is of the opinion that the F27 and Fokker 50 operators and Flight Simulator owners/companies must also have the opportunity to adapt the Aero Databases of the Flight Simulators in use at their facilities and therefore has decided to offer this change also to them.
TON50.061 and TON27.045 were issued to inform Fokker 50 and F27 Operators and Flight Simulator owners/companies about this phenomenon and the actions to be performed to improve the Flight Simulator behaviour in this CG area.

The Fokker F27 Mk.050 was developed as the successor of the Fokker F27 Friendship.
Two prototypes were built based on Fokker F27 airframes, the first flying on 28 December 1985.
Production ended after Fokker collapsed due to financial problems on 15 March 1996 and the last Fokker 50 was delivered to Ethiopian Airlines in May 1997.

In 1951 Fokker received support for this study for "Ontwerp 271" and the next two years were spent studying a variety of different configurations before the decision was made in favour of a twin-Dart aeroplane with pressurised accommodation for 28 passengers and a minimum range of 483 km with a capacity payload.
Until production of the Fokker F27 ended in 1986 a total of 786 aircraft were built, including 206 manufactured under licence by Fairchild in the U.S.A. The type was succeeded by the Fokker 50.
Fokker F27-100 PH-FHF currently operated by the Stichting Fokker Heritage Flight seen on the flightline of Leeuwarden on June 17th, 2006.
