Na de eerste wereldoorlog smokkelde Fokker in 6 goederentreinen een 200 vliegtuigen, 400 motoren en een partij vliegtuigonderdelen naar Nederland en sloeg dit alles op in Amsterdam.
Fokker deelde in de publiciteit van deze vlucht daar het een gewoon verkeersvliegtuig was en niet een speciaal toestel dat ontworpen was voor recordvluchten.
Veel maatschappijen wilden echter hun luchtvloot vernieuwen hierdoor was het verantwoord een geheel nieuw toestel te ontwerpen.

Anthony Herman Gerard Fokker was born on the sixth of April 1890 in Blitar in Indonesia, the former Dutch Indies.
Fokker managed to bring airplanes which were unfinished or not yet delivered to Holland by boat and train.
Fokker shared in the publicity of this flight because this Fokker F.VIIb/3m was a normal civil airplane and not a special airplane which was special designed for record flights.

In 1951 Fokker received support for this study for "Ontwerp 271" and the next two years were spent studying a variety of different configurations before the decision was made in favour of a twin-Dart aeroplane with pressurised accommodation for 28 passengers and a minimum range of 483 km with a capacity payload.
Until production of the Fokker F27 ended in 1986 a total of 786 aircraft were built, including 206 manufactured under licence by Fairchild in the U.S.A. The type was succeeded by the Fokker 50.
Fokker F27-100 PH-FHF currently operated by the Stichting Fokker Heritage Flight seen on the flightline of Leeuwarden on June 17th, 2006.

It was impossible to build a pressurized cabin in the Fokker fuselage, something Fokker and Plesman were as well aware of as anybody.

Fokker F-27 Friendships, twin propjet airliners, began entering service in 1959 and became the most popular MMA airliner, the final one was taken off service in 1971.

Although the aircraft still carries its Dutch 'trade plate' registration, it is already painted in the DCA house colours of white with light blue trim, and carries the DCA logo on forward fuselage and fin.
DCA ordered two brand new Friendships during 1959 so that the regulator had experience on the same airliner type that was being purchased in numbers at that time by Australian airlines such as TAA, East West Airlines, MacRobertson Miller Airlines, Ansett-ANA and its subsidiaries Airlines of NSW, Airlines of SA and Queensland Airlines.
Both Friendships were based at Melbourne/Essendon and used for a variety of roles, including radio navigation aid calibration work throughout Australia and Papua New Guinea.

The TAA Fokker Friendship disaster was the largest loss of life in an Australian aircraft accident, with 29 deaths.
A two-engined passenger plane, a Fokker Friendship belonging to Trans Australia Airlines (TAA), registration VH-TFB, was operating TAA Flight 538 from Brisbane.
By June 1960, TAA had 12 Fokker Friendships in service, and in the 14 years since the airline's creation in 1946, it had never had a fatal accident.

The Fairchild Hiller FH-227 was a United States-made version of the Fokker F27 Friendship twin-engined turboprop passenger aircraft manufactured under license by Fairchild Hiller.
It is superficially similar to the Friendship, though a closer look at the fuselage shows that the FH-227 has a larger cargo area between the cockpit and the passenger area.
Probably the closest to being the fabled DC-3 replacement, the Fokker F-27 Friendship, including the Fairchild built F-27 and FH-227, was built in greater numbers than any other western turboprop airliner.

It's also a part of history that the F-28 concept was never fully replaced by a follow up.

With the help of Spantax, a Spanish airline, Air Mauritanie started services in 1963 using Fokker F27 Friendships.
In 1983 Fokker F28 Fellowship jets were added to the fleet and in 1996 ATR-42 aircraft were purchased.
