Alternative weekly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An alternative weekly, alternately referred to as an alternative newsweekly or alternative newspaper, is a form of alternative media newspaper found in many centres in the United States and Canada.
Alternative weeklies represent the contemporary, earnest (though some favor highly ironic styles), more commercial and more mainstream evolution of the underground press associated with the 1960s counterculture.
Editorial positions at alternative weeklies are predominantly left-leaning, though there is a small minority of strongly conservative and/or libertarian alt-weeklies as well.

Folio: The Magazine for Magazine Management: Wenner's Us Goes Weekly
Wenner Media's bold decision to increase the frequency of Us to weekly and compete against Time Inc.'s powerhouse weeklies is a big gamble for a title that only eight years ago reduced frequency from twice-monthly to monthly in order to become profitable.
US Weekly, the latest incarnation in the life of the 22-year-old title, hits the newsstands on March 17th, 2000.
The move to a weekly frequency will also help capture technical marketers--advertisers that are broadcast-oriented and prefer the precision and measurability of a weekly, says general manager Kent Brownridge.

While most of the world, to the mortification of liberals, is engaged in a war against terrorism, it amazes me that the only big thing on The Gargoyle's small mind is how one student took personal offense to Folio Weekly borrowing a quote she obtained from another source.
The fact of the matter is that one does not commit plagiarism by failure to cite who obtained the quote first or where it first appeared.
The author of the Folio Weekly article did all that was required by citing the original source of the quote.

Brown was forced to resign from the T-U in November, after a committee of senior staffers confirmed that he’d lifted material for editorials verbatim from several publications without attribution.
The plagiarism investigation stemmed from an Oct. 12 Folio Weekly cover story by former T-U editorial page employee Billee Bussard, who documented numerous instances in which Brown stole entire paragraphs from conservative publications and passed the ideas off as his own.
The T-U, which at the time was preparing to "expose" Edward Waters College for plagiarism, was forced to publicly respond to the Folio Weekly article.
