Folk music was deemed "naive" and relegated to the place it remains today -- in the margins of popular culture.
Folk music is pure and noble, they claimed, and offers us a way to get back in touch with the roots of America.
The revivalists claimed that folk had a political and moral authority from 'the people,' but in fact the leaders of the movement were for the most part white, middle-class, and college-educated.

As spoken of earlier in the paper folk medicine consists of cures or remedies that ancestors discovered but did not actually test scientifically to see if they would work.
Folk remedies combine "magical"- belief in special powers associated with properties of objects- and practical cures, such as herbs.
Sometimes regular physicians would use folk cures- or ignore certain treatments that might later prove to be useful.

From an early age, Dr Gwyndaf was introduced to the tradition of storytelling, singing and poetry of his native district of Llangwm, in the former county of north Denbighshire, an area famed for its rich musical and bardic traditions.
During his career, Dr Gwyndaf has interviewed some 3000 informants in Wales, 450 of which are recorded on tape with a total of over 700 hours of recordings kept at the Archive in St Fagans.
These mainly relate to folk tales, folk traditions and folk belief of which Dr Gwyndaf is the country's leading authority.
