Topic: Folkboat

In the News (Sat 2 Jun 12)

  Excerpt: Folkboat Story
Under those circumstances it is all too commmon that Nordic Folkboats — and other smart classic designs — are often reduced to a Cinderella role, overlooked by the crowds who admire the latest in composite "Tupperware," sporting Priapic bowsprits to handle chutes the size of tennis courts.
The Folkboat reminds us of the less-is-more approach, and of the fact that convenience, comfort and speed, the three most prominent marketing mantras, are no guarantee for satisfaction and enjoyment.
Folkboats are happy to stand in the shadow of the glaring spotlight, but they continue to thrill the discriminating classic boat fiend.

She was known as the Intern ational Folkboat, but the Scandinavians regarded that description as misleading, and referred to her only as the "IF Boat." The Folkboat is indeed revered for her ability to carry sail in strong winds, and no doubt her extra-heavy keel is largely responsible for this.

I think the earliest Folkboats were made of pine and oak, as the idea behind was a cheap boat entirely made of domestic wood types.
