Although Mr Howard is perfectly correct to say that there are some delightful rural areas, for instance in the Elham Valley in his constituency, the vast majority of people in his constituency live along the coast in the towns of Folkestone and Hythe.
The Folkestone and Hythe constituency is different in that it has a number of centres which are not as dominant as Ashford is to the Ashford constituency and commented on Charing.
It is a rural constituency still, about 50/50 rural and urban, and there are cultural and demographic and other ties which really go back centuries in cases, and the Boundary Commission does acknowledge that it is important to respect those.
