Azkals - Viewing Topic: SEA Games - women`s tournament - November
THE Asian Football Confederation has “strongly advised” the Philippine Football Federation to move the venue of the Southeast Asian Games women’s football tournament after the original site, the Marikina Sports Complex, failed to meet AFC standards.
From the above and past performances of the seven teams expected to participate in the SEA Games women’s football competition, experts have ranked the Philippines a far fourth behind Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, and a near fourth ahead of Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
The downgrade was made after having seen that insufficient support would be forthcoming, particularly in delays in reinstating player allowances and stadium lights for practices, the hiring of a foreign coach and in participating in badly needed international competitions.

The SEA Games was the first event to follow the ruling by the AFC, who sanction all tournaments in the continent and who have decreed that all such events will follow the same rules from now on, including the 2002 Asian Games in Pusan, South Korea.

AFC general secretary Peter Velappan had been pushing for all soccer tournaments that were part of multi-sports events to enforce the age limit but had previously been met by opposition.
