Football (soccer) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In typical game play, players attempt to propel the ball toward their opponents' goal through individual control of the ball, such as by dribbling, passing the ball to a team-mate, and by taking shots at the goal, which is guarded by the opposing goalkeeper.
Football is generally a free-flowing game, with play stopping only when the ball has left the field of play, or when play is stopped by the referee.
From the beginning of each playing period with a kick-off (a set kick from the centre-spot by one team) until the end of the playing period, the ball is in play at all times, except when either the ball leaves the field of play, or play is stopped by the referee.

Football's ability to empower children, especially girls, is one of the sport's greatest strengths in the eyes of US football (soccer) star, Brandi Chastain.
Chastain has seen football's big impact on girls who play the sport and is herself a role model for millions of girls she has inspired with her outstanding performance and ability.
"Football games give girls the opportunity to play in public and the encouragement to succeed," she says.

History: Birth of pro football - Pro Football Hall of Fame
Thus pro football made its debut more than 100 years ago in comparatively obscure surroundings that could not possibly have provided the slightest clue to the world-wide popularity the sport would be destined to enjoy, particularly in the waning decades of pro football's first century.
The Allegheny football team, founded in 1890, and the Pittsburgh team, founded a year later, already were heated rivals when they met in the first of two games in the 1892 season and wound up in a 6-6 tie.
After the Pro Football Hall of Fame was opened in 1963 in Canton, further research uncovered the Pudge Heffelfinger payment by the Allegheny Athletic Association in 1892 and thus negated the Latrobe claim as the birthplace of pro football.

Football Play by Play Rules - PXP Sports Betting Rules
Plays will be graded when penalties are enforced at the end of a play and the outcome is considered an official pass, run attempt or sack as far as NFL official statistics are concerned.
Any play that is not a pass attempt that does not result in a turnover and is not ruled no play will be considered a "Rush" play for wagering purposes.
For the proposition "Where will the defensive team return the football to on this punt?" the outcome will be graded at the spot on the field where the defensive team begins the next drive, except in the event that they return the football for a touchdown (all touchdown returns are graded “Over”).

The first official use of the play was successfully executed against the University of Oregon in Multnomah Stadium (now Civic Stadium) in Portland.

A Hail Mary pass or Hail Mary play in American football is a forward pass made in desperation, with only a very small chance of success.
The play is almost never successful in potential game-winning situations, but might be worthy of an attempt in situations where there are no other alternatives, such as a run or a shorter pass that would be tantamount to giving up.
In discussing the play during a post-game interview, Staubach told reporters that he closed his eyes, threw the ball as hard as he could, and said a Hail Mary prayer.
