In 1822 the house was acquired by chancellor of the exchequer Sir Nicholas Vansittart, later Lord Bexley.
The arrival of the Sidcup by-pass brought businesses here from the 1930s and central Foots Cray is now dominated by the industrial and commercial premises of the LEFA and Five Arches business parks and the Coca-Cola and Schweppes bottling plant, the source of the Dasani ‘pure water’ fiasco in 2004.
Foots Cray Meadows lie to the north of the built-up area and contain the remains of Foots Cray Place, which burned down in 1949.

Foots Cray Baptist Church grew from the initiative of Mr W.H. Colyer, a member of Eynsford Baptist Church who came to live in the village of Foots Cray.
He licensed his house for public worship, and when he later returned to Farningham to live he left behind a thriving fellowship, now too large for the house and meeting in the Foots Cray Paper Mill (Nash's).
At about this time land was needed to provide a burial ground for members of the fellowship, as the Anglicans would not allow their graveyard to be used by the Baptists.

Normally, “E” plates along sections of route served only on Sunday—such as to Hayes and Bromley—had the days of operation shown and were red, hence my theory on this one.
Route 51B was introduced in 1952 running during Monday to Saturday rush hours between Orpington Station and Sidcup Station via St. Mary Cray and Foots Cray.
In 1964 it was withdrawn on Saturdays and revised to run all day on Mondays to Fridays between Sidcup Garage and Woolwich via Foots Cray, Blackfen, Welling and Plumstead Common.
