 For A Few Dollars More
It is absolutely amazing that only after the dollar has lost over 30% of its value, dollar bears began to surface and sentiment became overwhelmingly bearish early this year, especially when the two richest men in the world publicly trashed the dollar and embraced the Euro.
And now, six months later, the dollar bears are still growling, insisting that the new found strength is nothing but a bear market bounce, and the dollar should free fall soon and worth no more than the papers they are printed on…..because of this and that.
Sure, technically the dollar is in a long term bear market, but we have a buy signal this year and how high or how long will the rally last is anyone's guess, but as long as we remain on a buy signal, the dollar is not dead.

Sergio Leone's Dollars trilogy, only two of which had the word "dollars" in their names, was what brought Clint Eastwood into the international spotlight for his now trademark character of a man who, if not genuinely amoral, had his morals buried under several layers of well-aged dinosaur wine.
But if the original A Fistful of Dollars had served as a reminder to the world that a western could be a good film, then For a Few Dollars More was an additional proclamation that a western could also be a really arty movie.

There is a lot more intentional humour in this film than in its predecessor with whole sequences built up for the sake of a humourous pay-off, such as the scene with the apples towards the end.

From the opening scenes with Cleef and Eastwood, to the scenes in El Paso, and then into the set pieces in the stone ruins in the Mexico desert(s), For a Few Dollars More displays the utmost skill by Leone in his storytelling, as well as in his use of the camera.
Using Fistful's camera-man Massimo Dallamano, Leone does what he does best in his spaghetti westerns- he creates a perfectly in sync mood with his characters: each look in a scene, whether it's intense waiting for guns to be drawn, or just regular conversation, the look of the film draws the viewer in without over-doing it.

FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE climaxes in the traditional western fashion with extended gunfight that leaves the heroes facing the villains in a final deadly confrontation.

Sergio Leone's trilogy of operatic spaghetti Westerns with Clint Eastwood made the former TV star into an international sensation as the scraggly, silent Man with No Name, a wandering rogue with a scheming mind and a sense of humor drier than the dusty, wind-scoured desert.
The follow-up, For a Few Dollars More, teams Eastwood up in an uneasy alliance with Lee Van Cleef in a tale of revenge, but the masterpiece of the set is The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, an epic scramble for buried gold set against the violence of the Civil War.

This is probably because most people remember A Fistful of Dollars more because it is Leone's first western and Eastwood's first movie.
Each movie gets longer, not because more happens, but because his starts to take his time, giving plenty of screen time to the beautiful cinematography, Morricone's music, and the quite meaningful silence of the characters.
Either they had a different version of the film than is normally available, or, more likely, some bonehead there decided to cut out at least a minute of the beginning shoot-out.

For a Few Dollars More (1965)
For A Few Dollars More allowed Leone and Eastwood to expand on the character of the Man With No Name - it is not exactly a sequel, but it does contain many similar elements.
It seems an altogether more polished film than A Fistful of Dollars; Leone's style is more assured and more pronounced, with the marked contrast between wide open spaces and extreme close-ups.
Clint also seems more at ease: we see more of his smile than in the earlier film, notably when, after shooting Indio, Mortimer mimics the Man With No Name's style of spinning his gun into its holster.

"For a Few Dollars More," the second film in Sergio Leone's justly-celebrated "dollars" trilogy, is the very definition of a "transitional" film.
The opening three-minute shot follows a lone horseman who is ambushed by a long-range sniper -- significantly, we are never told who the sniper or victim are.
Even more intriguing is how Leone deflates some of the ultra-tough male conventions he set up in the first film.
