Forbidden (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Forbidden was the 1995 effort from Black Sabbath.
Band members have stated that the album was only made in order to fulfill contractual obligations with label I.R.S. Records, and this has been used as an excuse for the album's poor musical quality.
Shortly following the largely unsuccessful tour to support this album, singer Tony Martin was given his walking papers for the second time and the original lineup of Black Sabbath enjoyed a well-publicized reunion.

Forbidden Evil was actually the original name of the band, thus the title of the album.

Taboo Tunes Gallery - Music Censorship
Had this album of a 1970 Hendrix concert performance been issued by a legitimate record company – rather than by a shadowy bootleg label, Rubber Dubber Records – the Coca Cola company would clearly have had an air-tight trademark-infringement case on their hands.
When this album was released by Universal in 1994, the cover image of a woman’s flag-bikini bottom (replete with potentially unpatriotic pubic hair sprouting over the top) caused an immediate uproar.
It was purely the "luck of the draw" that resulted in Dream Theater seeing their latest album – the 3-CD set, Live Scenes From New York (replete with cover-art showing the NYC skyline and WTC towers engulfed in flames) – being assigned a release date of September 11th, 2001.

Unfortunately, Forbidden are trying to sound modern and super-in on this new album, which is definitely not their style of music or strength.
This album is an attempt to reach a new fan-base or audience, but in the long run, they are likely to lose their actual, current fan-base.
Individual songs don«t stand out on this album at all - this needn«t be a criteria to judge an album, but in Forbidden«s case, it would help distinguish them from the masses of other bands they are no doubt many steps ahead.

Classic Thrash - Reviews - F   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Without a doubt, the highlights of this album are the title track and its direct follow-up Metalshock which are both epic songs with only the weird "metal" lyrics as bad points (I sure hope they were meant to be humorous in the first place).
Forbidden were one of the more interesting bands coming from the USA west coast in the late eighties.
On the downside, the whole album sounds very strained, especially considering the vocals, and despite the obvious effort put into it the tracks are often plodding, tedious pieces of work.

Forbidden : Point of No Return: The Best of Forbidden - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Second wave Bay-Area thrash metal bands like Forbidden, don't exactly have hits, so any best-of collection -- especially after only two studio releases -- is a questionable affair.
While many fans agree that the two releases picked from to complete the tracklist of Point of No Return are in fact the bands best, a strong argument could be made that Forbidden's less Metallica-influenced late 90s material has some merit of its own too, leaving the record's "best of" status questionable.
While the music rips throughout this and just about every Forbidden collection, singer Russ Anderson's performances are just as typically inconsistent.

RedSabbath Reviews: Black Sabbath's Forbidden   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The album is just missing that dynamic big Sabbath sound we're used to, and it's not the individual songs fault, just the way they were recorded.
While I can't exactly remember how short of a time it took them to record the entire album (I think it was less than fourteen days, really!), that speedy finish time didn't work in their advantage like it did way back in 1970 with the very first Black Sabbath album.
IRS Recordings, who originally released the album, wanted to end their relationship with Black Sabbath anyway, this being the last album to fulfill the contract, so they probably didn't give Sabbath much in cash and time to complete the album the way Tony probably wanted.

In May 2003, according to Brion, the album was finished and handed over to Sony executives, who promptly declared it lacking a sure-fire radio single.
Last year a couple songs leaked to the Web, and a modest but vocal Free Fiona movement was born, with a website (www.freefiona.com) a petition (33,000 signatories and growing) and clever protests (sending Sony executives thousands of apples affixed with names of Apple's supporters).

After years of business complications prevented Forbidden from adding to its thrash metal oeuvre, the band finally released its third studio recording of new material, Distortion, in 1995.
These changes were not lost on the members of Forbidden, and when they finally got around to following up their respected but slightly derivative late-'80s thrash recordings, they paid close attention to the new '90s metal speed limit.
Despite the fine contributions of all involved, Forbidden was adrift between its early thrash successes and the '90s aggro of its final release, Green, and Distortion lacks the band's usual focus as a result.

Madonna had released the album "Erotica" and a book about sex a 3 years prior to this and it both launched controversy and cool reviewes on her album (which wasn't that bad either actually).
However, in 1994 she released "Bedtime Stories" which offered another more positive side of sex, perhaps the album title wasn't the best choise since the listener could think that it would be simular to "Erotica" which it clearly isn't.

One small quibble on this album is the track "Secrets (Part 2)." This track is a four-minute, sullenly quiet piece, which most certainly had some place in Fareri’s story telling.
The best track on the album is the nine-minute “Illusions” where key and guitar solos run crazy around a solid kick-ass drum track and more tempo changes than your favorite old-fashioned wooden roller coaster.
